Dear Members of District 9 NCAEOP: I feel truly honored and humbled by the chance to serve as your District 9 NCAEOP President during the 2013 – 2014 year. We experienced a “Magical Journey through NCAEOP” last year. I wish that it was as awesome an experience for you as it was for me. I learned so much from the positions I have held, the lead-ership I followed, and the instruction I received. I hope you are as excited as I am to share the experience of how we are “Dedicated To A Promising Tomorrow” this year. I also anticipate that you all share and will return my enthusiasm to District 9 NCAEOP and to your local units. I personally thank each member for joining NCAEOP. Officers and chairmen it is wonderful that you have agreed to take on a leadership role. By serving in this capacity, you have made a major step in exhibiting your dedication, commitment, and devotion to our Organization and our members. Please be sure to fulfill the duties required by your position and take the time to pass on your wisdom, skill, and that good ole’ “NCAEOP know-how” to our new members and others who need to be shown the way. I encourage you to keep moving forward (somewhere over the NCAEOP rainbow), and do not leave anyone behind. All of our members need to continue to do whatever you can to be the driving force behind our leader-ship. I know we have some members who like to remain in the background. Just remember to not be so far back that we do not know that you exist :) Join a com-mittee and lend a helping hand. Everyone has a skill, please use it. Our locals (most especially our local presidents) need strong support. We all need to be color-ful and plentiful with our compliments because everyone needs them. I want to share some simple known facts with you. The Big Dipper is made up of seven stars. It takes seven days to make up a week. There are seven continents that make up this world. There are seven basic colors in a rainbow. I am very fortu-nate to have the support of extremely outgoing, innovating and committed NCAEOP District 9 officers. I am joined by the most outstanding local Presidents and a host of exceptional District 9 chairmen who are amazing in thought and actions. Each local has a realm of the most talented people in the State of North Carolina :) The glue that holds NCAEOP District 9 together is seven special letters that make us all FRIENDS!
I thank you all for what you have done and what you will continue to do for NCAEOP. Together we will show how we are “Dedicated To A Promising Tomor-row.” Remember that it takes all of us to run this great organization. Not just one,
but all!

On Friday, July 12, 2013, Fayetteville Technical Community College Association for Educational Office Pro-
fessionals held a one-of-a-kind Gospel Explosion! Local groups from all over North Carolina donated their
time and talents to support FTCCAEOP scholarships and the organization. Local radio stations; Olde
School 107.7 FM Morning Inspiration with Lady G; Saturday Night House Party 107.7 FM with Jae McRae,
and Calvin P Five to Six Drive Home 107.7 FM and Roger Dostall with WIDU aired interviews with Marie
Callender, FTCCAEOP President promoting the event. The radio shows also advertised the fundraising
event. Everyone who attended had an awesome spirit-filled time! Members of the audience thought it was
an excellent event for the community and FTCC and are already asking for an encore in 2014!
Marie pulled together a vast variety of talented singers, musicians, groups, and mimes. FTCCAEOP mem-
bers sold food and all types of desserts to support the fundraising efforts. Most special thanks goes out to
Joseph Levister, Vice President for Administrative Services who welcomed everyone to FTCC and Rosa
Faison “Lady G” who was the hostess with the “mostest” as the evening’s MC. The audience was enter-
tained by:
These performers absolutely exceeded everyone’s expectations! FTCCAEOP’s Gospel Explosion was quite a success and not only provided good food and fellowship, but
great music and fun for all in the community. The success of the event will also provide deserving students
the opportunity to reach their educational goals at FTCC.
Special thanks to Carlos Ash who donated his artwork, Michael Butler who donated his time as the photog-
rapher, Diane Redmond for the graphics design on the posters and flyers and Joe Frydl for his media exper-
tise. FTCCAEOP would also like to thank those that donated, but could not attend this worthy cause.

Rainbow Recipe (Layer Cake)
P A G E 1 1 V O L U M E I V , I S S U E 1
Ingredients
Cake
2 boxes Betty Crocker® SuperMoist® vanilla cake mix
2 cups water
1 cup vegetable oil
6 eggs
2 packages (2.7 oz each) Betty Crocker® classic gel food colors
Buttercream Frosting
1 cup shortening
1 cup butter, softened
1 bag (2 lb) powdered
sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 to 4 tablespoons milk
1 Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 3 (8-inch) round cake pans with cooking
spray.
2 In large bowl, beat cake mix, water, oil and eggs with electric mixer on
low speed 30 seconds, then on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl
occasionally. Divide batter evenly among 6 small bowls, about 1 1/3 cups
each.
3 Using food colors, tint batter in 1 bowl blue, 1 bowl red, 1 bowl green, 1
bowl yellow, 1 bowl orange (using red and yellow) and 1 bowl purple (using
blue and red).
4 Refrigerate 3 colors of batter until ready to bake. Pour remaining 3
colors of batter into cake pans.
5 Bake 18 to 20 minutes or until cake springs back when touched lightly
in center and begins to pull away from side of pan. Cool 10 minutes. Remove
from pans to cooling racks; cool completely.
6 Wash cake pans. Bake and cool remaining 3 cake layers as directed.
7 In large bowl, beat shortening and butter with electric mixer on medium
speed until light yellow. On low speed, gradually beat in powdered sugar.
Beat in vanilla. Add milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating until frosting is
smooth. Beat on high speed until light and fluffy.
8 Trim rounded tops off cakes to level, if needed. On serving plate, place
purple cake layer. Spread with frosting to within 1/4 inch of edge. Repeat with
blue, green, yellow, orange and red cake layers. Spread light coat of frosting
on top and side of cake to seal in crumbs, then frost with remaining frosting.

As NCAEOP President, I have chosen for my theme “NCAEOP dedicated to a promising tomorrow”. I have chosen the rainbow and a heart as symbols for my logo, the rainbow representing God’s promise to us for a better tomorrow, and the heart representing strength and love. We realize that each EOP member has different attributes represented by each col-or of the rainbow. Just like in a rainbow each color shines bright as an individual, but when the colors are put together in the rainbow they work as a team for one purpose striving for excellence as an Educational Office Professional and the promising tomorrow.
Which color attribute do you think best represents yourself? Red - which is the top color, represents Energy and enthusiasm Orange - the second color represents wisdom Yellow - the third color, represent clarity of thought and improved decision-making skills Green - the center color represents harmony and balance Blue - the 5
th color represents peace and understanding
Indigo - the 6th color represents intuition and self-mastery
Violet - the last color represents spiritual attainment I hope each of you have a wonderful year of learning, leading, and helping one another to be the dedicated individuals working together to let your rainbow shine through.

NAEOP Stars
Coast to Coast"...
I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the new membership year for NAEOP as your President. If you were not able to attend the 79th Annual Conference in Alexandria, Virginia, please allow me to introduce myself. My professional career began 22 years ago
when I was employed by the NYC Department of Education as the Prin-cipal's secretary in an elementary school in Brooklyn, NY and where I am still in that same position in the same elementary school. Through-out those 22 years, I have had the pleasure of 'training' three principals, each with their own style, personality and vision....but I survived all throughout the transitions. (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I will not have to train anyone else before I retire!) I have chosen for my NAEOP Presidential theme..."NAEOP Stars Coast to Coast"...because my hope is to be able to meet the outstand-ing NAEOP stars throughout the coming year as I look forward to travel-ing coast to coast. The 5-point star of my Presidential logo represents the mission of our Association - Service, Information, Recognition and Fellowship - and the fifth point represents YOU the NAEOP member! I'm thrilled with the idea of visiting with the NAEOP affiliates in the next year and to be able to participate in your professional development. Warm regards,
Cathy Eberle NAEOP President 2013-2014 CEberle@schools.nyc.gov
