FROM THE
GIBSONS...
Kathy and I are very grateful for the opportunity
we had to par t ic ipate in the 6th Annual Mexican
Missionary
Convention.
There were
over
200
people in
attendance, repre
senting
close to 20 churches, as well as Bible Colleges
and 3 children's homes in Mexico. People came from as
fa r north
as Eagle
Pass, Texas, and as fa r s out h as
M ex i co
-
I t was exciting to see a
strong
national
leadership
calling for
the
Mexican churches to be more evangel
i s t ic and
to
r each out
no t o nl y to
their own communities
but also to think about
new
areas within Mexico, as
well as
foreign missions.
We were
thrilled
by
the
report
of
the convent ion 's f i rst missionary as he told
of
the joys and
hardships
during hi s f irst year on the
field. We were touched by the loving kindness shown
a young couple whose l ives had been shattered by
th e
earthquake
in Mexico City.
There
was a real
pride
in the churches' effor ts to
stop being on
the
receiving end of mission support
from
th e
U.S.,
and to
take
on
new
responsibili t ies
for
carrying the gospel
to
a lost world. They
took
offerings
fo r
mission projects and made
plans
to be
involved in
the
reconstruction and evangelism in
Mexico
City.
Our
purpose
in
speaking
to the conference was
to
share some
personal experiences
about the dangers of
communism to
Christianity
and to give tes timony to
God's power and grace in reaching a lost world
for
Christ.
I t
was a
special joy to
us
to see
such
attentiveness
to
our message. Even though the people
had sat through 12 hours of programs on Saturday,
e ve ry e ye
was
upon us
as
we spoke.
We
were amazed
th e
babies
stopped
crying
and even the dog
at
th e back
of t he audi to r ium seemed to be attentive. What a
^privilege i t was
to share the
good news
of our
Lord

Help seemed to come
from
a l l parts of the
world.
Flares by the
hurdreds came wi th t h e i r p r ec ious cargos
o f food,
medicine and
clothing.
Some
countries
even
sent
t rained
personnel
and
t rained
dogs to help
in the
locat ion
and
rescue of the
many victims of the
wo r s t na tu r a l
d i s a s t e r to ever occu r
in
Mexico and it s c ap i t a l ,
I
One
plane had a particular cargo. It didn't bring anything that |
the others
had
brought'.
What
a waste
of
money, e f fo r t and t ime,
I
t hough t
to m yse lf .
As I kept watching the news-the rescue
of
children who weren't
even
two weeks
o ld a f t e r
be ing
bur ied
a l i ve
fo r
over a week-I won
dered
what God had in nfind
fo r
them. Every
t ime
a ch i l d o r an
a -
dul t
was
rescued,
people
would cheer and
ye l l ,
VIVA MEXICO, VIVA
MEXICO'. f
After watching
several who
had
been
rescued,
I
began to
see a
pattern.
I t
seemed
that
those
being rescued
a l l
asked
for
the
same thing.
I t wasn 't fo r
food
or
clothing,
not
even
medicine'.
They
all
wanted
water
I
PLEASE GIVE ME
SOME
WATER: I NEED WATER:
GIVE ME SOME WATER
I t was then tha t
I
was able to
understand,
indeed,
how PRECIOUS
THAT PLANE LOAD rea l ly was. Someone had thought of the MOST VITAL
thing
of
a ll and
they
sent
i t
by
the
gallons'. Let us not
forget
the
words of JESUS: But whosoever drinketh
of
the w ater tha t I
shall
give him
shall
never
thirst;
but the water
that
I
shall
W give
him
shall be in
him
a well of water springing
up
into ever-
