What are we doing?

Migrating 37 colleges, universities, and community colleges to Ex Libris Alma (staff) and Primo Direct (discovery).

Along the way, replacing • Integrated Library Systems• Discovery systems • Electronic Resource Management systems• Link resolvers/knowledgebases• Standalone proxy servers • Local servers … going to the cloud

Why are we doing this?

… because of the past… because of the future

Why? … because of the pastOld systemsBased on limited bandwidth, storage, lack of standardsLagging functionalityHard to

• Innovate• Integrate• Extract data

Total cost of ownership: Maintenance, Servers, Discovery, ERM, open URL resolvers, etc. etc.

Why are we doing this?

Why? … because of the futureBetter services for students, faculty, staffImproved resource sharing … a better SummitImproved staff toolsEnabling

• Collaborative Technical Services• Vision of “one collection”

New vendor optionsAlma, Intota, Sierra, WMS, etc.

Sister Consortia

Sister Consortia are engaged in discussions about their future directions.

Alliance contract with Ex Libris will includea) An option for Sister Consortia to migrate to Ex Libris

if they so choose.

b) Ex Libris commitment to resource sharing standards if Sister Consortia decide to use a cross-platform resource sharing system (such a WorldCat Navigator).

Summit through the ages

Early 1990’s Orbis via INN-Reach

Cascade via INN-Reach

2003 Summit via INN-Reach

2008 Summit via WorldCat Navigator

2012+ … ? …

Summit through the ages

2012-15 Summit is important all through migration … it is our cross-platform resource sharing system.

2015+ Resource sharing within the Alliance happens via Alma & Primo, but …

What about outside the Alliance? What about Sister Consortia? Is this a 2015+ role for Summit?
