2015 Budget OnOctober13, theParkeBoardofDirectorsapprovedadraftofthe2015ParkeHomeownersAssociationbudget.Thedraftbudgetcallsfora$2increaseinthemonthlyassessmentfor a totalmonthlyassessmentof$188. Asyouknow, thisdraftbudgetisoutfora30-dayreviewandwillbereadyforfinalBoardapprovalattheNovember19regularlyscheduledBoardmeeting.AswaspointedoutinmyOctoberPresident’sCorner,overtheyearsasTheParkeinfrastructureages,repair,maintenanceand replacementcostsarebeginning to showsignificant in-creaseandwe,asacommunity,arerequiredtofacethisreal-ity.WemustprotectourParkeinvestment.Wehavevirtually“straightlined”theParkeassessmentoverthelastfouryearswithasmallincreasein2014.WearenowatacrossroadsandmuststarttomakesomeharddecisionsinordertomaintainthehighstandardswehavesetforourParkeinvestmentandamenities.Wehavedevelopeddatawhichclearlyindicatethatoursurpluses,assumingnosignificantdecreaseinspending,will bedepletedover thenext fewyearsplacingTheParkeina“payasyougo”position. Weare takingfullmeasurestokeepexpensesatminimumlevels,butwealsounderstand

thatwemustberealisticandnottakeunnecessaryrisks.Ofcourse, theremaybeopportunities tocreatesurplusesaswework through the futureyears throughsoundfinancialman-agement,butwemustbudgetatalevelthatistrulyrealistic,notwhatwehopewilloccurinthefuture. Therefore, even though we could maintain the straightlineapproachforafewyears,webelievethatdoingsowouldrequire significant increases in our assessments a few yearsinto thefuture. Wedonotbelieve this fulfillsourfiduciaryresponsibility to The Parke community. Therefore, we aresuggestingsmallincrementalincreasesthrough2018withanestimatedassessmentof$198at that time(assumingnoun-foreseensignificantincidentsoccur).Thefirstincrementfor2015isrecommendedat$188permonth.FutureBoardsarenot required to followour recommendationsof slight incre-mentalincreases;however,thecurrentBoardfeelsthisisthemostresponsiblecourseofactiongivenallaspectsofcurrentfinancialinformationavailable. Wecertainlyhopethatourmembersunderstandtheneedtobegintheprocessofraisingourassessments. Webelievethatevenattheselevelswecomparefavorablywithsimilarly

The Parke Supper Club ComemeetmembersoftheSupperClubatasocialhourin the Clubhouse’s Grand Hall on Saturday, November 8,from4–6pm(pleaseRSVPbyNovember3).Theclub’scoor-dinatorwillorganizemembersintogroupsofeightandselectwhowillbethehostforeachofthefourrotations(everyothermonth).ThefirstdinnerwillbeinJanuary. As in the past, the coordinator will make suggestionsaboutthemenuandrecipes.Thehostwillpickadateandtime,which is thehardest part. The Wine Appreciation Group of The Parke went on a 2-day wine tasting trip to Prince Michel Winery, Barboursville Winery, Horton Winery, and Blenheim Winery. The group enjoyed lunching at Michie Tavern near Monticello and din-ing at The Ivy Inn, all in the Charlottesville, VA area.

On October 11, the Parke Bench accompanied several walk-ers from The Parke on a tour of downtown Ocean City.

The Parke Bench went on Rita and Eddie’s YMT bus tour through Arizona and New Mexico. This picture was taken at the ancient Native American ruins, their first archaeological preserve.

From time to time it becomes im-portantforCovenantstospeakaboutitsrole as resident advocate. In this role,theCommitteeoritschairpersonreceivesquestions from residents concerningproblems they have experienced. Cov-enantshasaddressedtheseissuesinatimelymannerandre-ported back to the resident who made the original contact.Sometimestheproblemhasbeensolved.AttimestheCom-mitteewasunabletogivetheresidentthesolutiontheywant-ed. WealwaystrytorespondwithanexplanationbasedonTheParkegoverningdocuments.Recently,anissuewasanonymouslybroughttotheatten-tionof theCovenantsCommittee. Thisvolunteered timealsoallowsstafftoworktogetherforthemajorityofhoursduringtheday,accomplishingteamworktasksandbuildingcamara-derie. Thenumberof thesevolunteershasdroppedover thepastyearandyoumaybesurprised toknowthat themajor-ityof those that remainhaveserved for fiveormoreyears!Thatspeaksvolumes–andbegsthequestion–whynotmorevolunteersorwhythesameforthepastfiveyears.Atsomepoint,thecurrentCRRgroupwillneedto“retire”andtheAs-sociationwillneedtoaddtoitsCRRGroupinordertokeeptheClubhouseopenearlyandlateandallowingstafftoworkasateamformostofthebusinessweek/day.Overthepastyear,IhavestrivedtomakethisvolunteerpositionaseasyandwelcomingaspossibleinthehopesthatitbecameanenjoyabletimespentattheClubhouse,withoutcomplicatedresponsibilities.Soifyoufindyourselfwantingtovolunteerandmaynotwanttotakeonthehoursofcommit-menttoaCommittee,youshouldspeaktoMekiaWashingtonabouttheCRRvolunteerposition.Wewouldbehappytohaveyouonourteam!!! Thissingleunit,abovetheceilingofthemen’slockerroom,is10feet long,7 feethigh,6.5 feetwideandwasdropped inbycranewhiletheClubhousewasbeingconstructed.
