FWFOUT!GPS!BEVMUT!JO!OPWFNCFS!'!EFDFNCFS!Kathleen Ernst Author Event Wednesday, November 8th, at 7:00 PM Kathleen Ernst returns to the Library to read from and discuss her latest Chloe Ellefson mystery, Mining for Justice, the eighth book in the series, set at the histor-
ic Pendarvis site in Mineral Point, WI. Kathleen's books will be available for purchase at the event, and the evening will conclude with a book-signing.
My Scrappy Little Cookbook: A Craft Event for Adults Thursday, November 9th, at 6:30 PM What do you do with all those recipes that you’ve printed, cut out, or copied? Are they crumpled in a ball or tucked
away in a cluttered folder? Come and craft with us and let’s organize them into a recipe scrapbook for you or your loved ones. Space is limited so regis-tration is required. Age 16 and over, please.
Film Screening: Things to Come (L’avenir) Tuesday, November 28th, at 6:30 PM Join us for our 3rd annual Wis-
consin Film Festival Pop-up Screening sponsored by the Beyond the Page endowment! This year, we'll be screening the 2016 French film Things to Come (L'avenir), in which a passionate middle-aged philosophy professor (Isabelle Huppert) re-thinks her already much-examined life after an un-foreseen divorce. The film played to sold out audi-ences at the 2017 Wisconsin Film Fest earlier this year. Drinks, popcorn, and movie concessions will be provided!
Author Event: The Great War Comes to Wisconsin Wednesday, November 29th, at 7:00 PM In recognition of the centennial anniver-sary of America's entry into The First
World War, the Library is pleased to welcome au-thor, historian, and archivist Richard L. Pifer to dis-cuss his new book, The Great War Comes to Wis-consin: Sacrifice, Patriotism, and Free Speech in a Time of Crisis. This book captures the Ameri-can home front experience through a Wisconsin lens: the political debates over war policy, the worry over loved ones fighting overseas, the countless everyday sacrifices, and the impact of a wartime hysteria that drove dissent underground. The book
also includes letters and accounts from soldiers fighting the war from Wisconsin's famed 32nd Divi-sion. Copies of the book will be available for pur-chase courtesy of Wisconsin Historical Society Press, and the evening will conclude with a book signing.
Morning Book Discussion: A Man Called Ove by Frederik Backman Thursday, November 30th, at 10:00 AM In September, our Thursday morning book group will discuss Swedish author Fredrik Backman’s international bestseller, A Man
Called Ove. Everyone is welcome to join us in the lower level Archer Room.
“Let’s Talk About Texts” Book Discus-sion: Thinking Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman Thursday, November 30th, at 7:00 PM At The Free House Pub, 1902 Parmenter St. in Middleton
Our bi-monthly book discussion group will meet at The Free House Pub in downtown Middleton to dis-cuss Thinking Fast and Slow, psychologist Daniel Kahneman’s bestselling book about decision-making and cognitive biases. All adults are wel-come to join us for drinks, appetizers, and great conversation.
Get Started Needle Felting: A Craft Event for Adults Thursday, December 9th, at 6:30 PM Want to play with fluffy wool and sharp
objects? Try needle felting! Learn the basic tech-nique by using cookie cutters to create felted shapes. After class, use them as decoration or turn them into ornaments, magnets, mobiles--the possi-bilities are endless. All materials provided free of charge. Ages 16+ only please; needles are very sharp! All events will take place in the Archer Room on the library’s lower level unless otherwise noted. Regis-tration is appreciated: Online via our events calendar at midlibrary.org/events or by email at info@midlibrary.org. Make stuff! Do you have homemade craft items that you’d like to sell? Would you like to pick up
some great gifts? Our Young Entrepreneurs Craft Fair is on Nov. 4th! (All ages are wel-come to shop at the Fair; cash only, please.) Would you like to learn how to make Candy Sushi? Join us on Nov. 11 to test your culi-nary creativity and chopstick skills! Sugar rush included. For those with a more archi-tectural bent, our Holidays Unraveled event on Dec. 9 will feature gingerbread house dec-orating, as well as an ugly sweater contest, a hot cocoa bar, and a white elephant ex-change! (We’ll also have a multicultural holi-day trivia contest!) Registration recommend-ed.
Learn Life Hacks! Do you feel clueless about adult-y things? Wish you had a cheat sheet of life
hacks? In November, we are continuing our Adulting 101 classes to offer CPR and safe-ty on Nov. 13, Survival Hacks (car emergen-cies, child emergencies, survival cooking) on
Nov. 20, and Conversation and Writing on Nov. 27. We’ll have door prizes at each ses-sion, and if you come to all the sessions, you’ll receive an “Official Adult” card!
Books with Buzz! Science fiction and fairy tale fans, here is the series you’ve requested most for a book
discussion: The Lunar Chronicles! Have you read Cinder, Scarlet, Winter, or Heartless? Whether you’ve read just one or have read them all, you’re welcome to stop by our next Donuts & Dystopias on Nov. 17th to dis-cuss them! In a futuristic city, a cyborg Cin-derella meets the granddaughter of a missing military pilot… On December 1st, our teen book discussion will focus on The Hate U Give, arguably one of the most important teen books published in the last year. A New York Times bestseller with a movie adaptation underway, this book was inspired by the Black Lives Matter move-ment. We’d love to hear your thoughts on the book! (A limited number of copies availa-ble at the Help Desk, as supplies last.) We hope to see you soon at the library!
...and discover your next great read! Visit www.midlibrary.org/subscribe to choose from a variety of updated book lists to be sent to your inbox. You can select from fiction & non-fiction bestsellers, new books in mystery, science fiction, romance and more! Some lists are published monthly, others weekly, and you can unsubscribe anytime. The lists have descriptions, reviews, and comments, along with links to check our online catalog. You can also visit www.midlibrary.org/booklists to browse a collection of assembled book list categories for all ages.
