OCEANOGRAPHY AND OFF-SHORE GEOPHYSICS FOR

DISPERSION AND COASTAL FLOODING ASPECTS

NUCLEAR POWER PLANT SITING PROJECTBANGKA ISLAND AT BANGKA BELITUNG PROVINCE

2011-2013

Objectives :

To collect data and information of the oceanography and off-shore geophysics for dispersion and coastal flooding aspects required for the Nuclear Power Plant Sitting Project at Bangka Island that are necessary to support the: a) oceanography and off-shore geophysics for

dispersion and coastal flooding studies of site determination in accordance with capacity plans for each region of interest;

b) assessment of seismic and flooding hazards;

c) mapping of oceanography and off-shore geophysics for dispersion and coastal flooding aspect

Collection of Secondary Data:

All collected oceanography, off-shore geophysics for dispersion and coastal flooding data covering the interest area of the two sites consisting, in general, of:

1. Bathimetry and topography maps and data (regional and near-regional scale analysis),

2. Existing aerial photographs,3. Existing satellite imagery (Landsat, SPOT,

DEM/SRTM) not older than 5 (five) years

All digital oceanography, off-shore geophysics for dispersion and coastal flooding data including hardcopy should be purchased from authorized seller (e.g. Dishidros AL, P3GL-ESDM -Center for Marine Geology Research and Development- Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources-, Related Ministries and Institutions) with legal receipt

Particularly, the secondary data should be collected:

Historical bathymetry data Historical sonic dataHistorical off-shore drilling dataHistorical tide measurement dataHistorical wave measurement dataHistorical sea current measurement dataHistorical sea water temperature and salinity

measurement dataHistorical abrasion, acresion, seismic, flooding dataDigital basic and thematic maps (e.g. bathimetry, marine

environment, contour map) with source map scale 1:25.000-scale up to 1: 10.000 (or more appropriate scale)

Printed copies of satellite imageries

Collection of Primary Data

Bathymetric Survey :

Bathymetric map with scale of 1/5,000Sea bottom sections with scale of 1/2,000

(horizontal) and 1/100.(vertical)Trace map of survey vesselSurvey recording chartOther data necessary for preparation of

bathymetric map and for coastal flooding and tsunami hazard assessment, in appropriate formats.

Bathymetric Survey :Benchmark position determination

Bathymetric Survey :Horizontal Control

Bathymetric Survey :Positioning System

Bathymetric Survey :Sea-Depth Measurement and Barcheck

Sonic prospecting :

Sub-bottom profile and sub-stratum mapTrace map of survey vesselSurvey recording chart.Other data necessary for preparation of sub-

stratum map

Sonic prospecting :

Sonic prospecting :

Tide and wave observation:

Location map of tide and wave gauge stationList of mean higher high water, mean lower

low water and mean sea level as well as hourly tide records

List of wave parameters such as H⅓, T⅓, H1/10, T1/10, Hmax, and Tmax as well as wave direction

Recorded charts and data

Tidal current observation :

Location map of observation pointsList of current direction and velocityCharts of tidal ellipse

Tidal current observation :

Survey on water temperature and salinity :

Location map of measurement pointsVertical distribution and time variation of

water temperature and salinityRecorded data

Survey on water temperature and salinity :

Littoral current observation :

Littoral drift sand survey :

Location map of littoral drift sand sampling points as well as sand trapping observation points

Distribution of littoral drift sand concentrationRecorded data

Littoral drift sand survey : Sediment and water sampling

Marine and sedimentation and scouring characteristics and future change of coastal line :Littoral sand characteristics along the

coastline of the site (present condition of sediment processes)

Prediction of future coastline changes with and without coastal structure (shoreline changes, onshore-offshore transports, beach profiles)

Countermeasures to protect the power plant site against possible problem in relation to sedimentation and scouring

Design basis sea level :

Probable maximum tsunami (PMT)50-year return period wind-waveHighest astronomical tide (HAT) and Lowest

astronomical tide (LAT) based on 29 years estimation

Design basis sea level combining the three extreme levels

Coastal Flooding :

Storm wave propagationTsunamis, seiches, storm surges and eustacyExtremely water level measurement

Data Analysis

Data analysis of oceanography, off-shore geophysics for dispersion and coastal flooding should be performed by using appropriate numerical model and mapped by development of GIS System.

Analysis of all collected oceanography, off-shore geophysics for dispersion and coastal flooding data

The analysis of all collected oceanography, off-shore geophysics for dispersion and coastal flooding data should be performed and the results obtained of such analysis in relation to the objectives above.
