ADDRESSING NURSING SHORTAGE THROUGH RE ALLOCATION OF NURSES WORKING IN THE HOSPITAL

2ND FLOOR ON 4.9.2013

EACH NURSE WORKING 8 HOURS A DAY

10 PATIENTS : 3 MOBILE , 4 PARTIALLY MOBILE , 3 IMMOBILE

NURSING HOURS REQUIRED = (7.24 *3) + (3.08*4) + (2.07*3) = 40.25 HOURS

NUMBER OF NURSES REQUIRED TO FILL THE NURSING HOURS = 40.25/8 = 5 APPROX.

PROVISION OF DAY OFF, CASUAL LEAVE, EARNED LEAVE AND OTHER PERMITTED HOLIDAYS = 97 DAYS/YEAR [45 SUNDAYS, 28 PL, 7 SL, 7 CL, 10 PUBLIC HOLIDAYS]

TO MEET LEAVE VACANCIES EXTRA NURSE REQUIRED = (97/365)*(40.25/8)=1.3

TOTAL 5 + 1.3 = 6.3 APPROX.
