1 Introduction The TEMS Discovery post-processing tool performs many calculations during data processing. No other product can match the variety of information elements that TEMS Discovery handles, thus allowing thorough analysis of collected data from UMTS, CDMA, TD-SCDMA, WiMAX, and LTE wireless networks.
The purpose of this document is to describe the way in which three categories of events that can be processed by TEMS Discovery are calculated:
1. TEMS collector events
2. QVoice events
3. Events generated by TEMS Discovery itself
In cases where such a calculation is proprietary, such information will be hidden. Please contact your Ascom account manager if access to the any proprietary information is required for your analysis.

2 TEMS_Collectors_Events
The events from TEMS_Collectors_Events script are created by various products within the TEMS portfolio during data collection.
The events described in the following subsections can be accessed in TEMS Discovery under [.Advanced Metric & Event (Pre-defined)].[TEMS_Collectors_Events]. The metrics under TEMS_Collectors_Events will be described in a future version of this document.

2.1 Categorized Events
The event categories are added by TEMS Discovery for the purpose of grouping certain events together. The user can modify event categories and save the changes from the Script Builder.

.Common EV-DO 1x Tune-away
Generated in CDMA mode: The phone suspended the EV-DO service to look for 1x paging. Triggered by EV-DO Tuneaway Information Report.
.Common EV-DO Dynamic Rate
Generated in CDMA mode: The phone switched back from fixed rate to dynamic rate during an EV-DO session. Triggered by occurrence of fixed rate end time (see EV-DO Fixed Rate).
.Common EV-DO Fixed Rate
Generated in CDMA mode: The phone has entered fixed rate mode for a period of time during an EV-DO session. Triggered by receipt of Fixed Mode Enable Message (containing a given end time).
.Common EV-DO Island Generated in CDMA mode: There is only a single active pilot and no candidates. Triggered by EV-DO Pilot Sets Ver2 Report.
.Common Narrowband Interference
Generated in CDMA mode: Generated in the course of narrowband interference scanning.
Triggered when an in-band RF channel has a strength exceeding the average in-band RSSI by an amount at least equal to Interference Offset.
The event is generated only once for a given interferer in the course of a scan. Furthermore, if interference is detected on several contiguous RF channels, only one event is reported for all of these channels.
.Common Polluter Generated in CDMA mode: Result calculated according to an Ascom-proprietary algorithm for pilot pollution and missing neighbor detection.
.Common Datalink Failure Generated in GSM mode: Datalink failure caused by unsolicited Disconnected Mode response or sequence error.
.Common EGPRS MS Out Of Memory
Generated in EDGE mode: The phones status buffer has filled up so that the phone is no longer able to use Incremental Redundancy on the downlink for link quality control. Consequently it is forced to switch to using Link Adaptation.
.Common PDU Error Generated in GSM mode: Protocol Data Unit error caused by syntax error in Layer 3 message.
.Common Activated This event does not result from interaction with a cellular network. A device has been activated in TEMS Investigation.
.Common AQM Out of Synch
Generated in GSM, WCDMA modes: The synchronization between the AQM module and the Call Generator has been lost. See the document AQM in TEMS Products (Including PESQ).

.Common Dedicated Mode
Generated in GSM mode: The phone has entered dedicated mode.

Generated in CDMA mode: The phone is in traffic state.
.Common Filemark This event does not result from interaction with a cellular network. A filemark was encountered in the logfile.
.Common GPS Position Invalid
This event does not result from interaction with a cellular network. Positions reported by the GPS unit have become invalid (GPS coverage lost).
.Common GPS Position Valid
This event does not result from interaction with a cellular network. GPS positions are valid again (GPS coverage regained). Reported after a GPS Position Invalid event has occurred.
.Common Idle Mode Generated in GSM mode: The phone has entered idle mode.
Extra information: BCCH ARFCN and BSIC.
Generated in CDMA mode: The phone is in init state or has entered idle mode.
.Common Limited Service Mode
Generated in GSM mode: The GSM phone has entered limited service mode (emergency calls only).
.Common Location Area Update
Generated in GSM, WCDMA modes: The phone has changed location areas.
Extra information: Location update type (LUT).
.Common Location Area Update Failure
Generated in GSM, WCDMA modes: The phone failed in changing its location area.
