CHERTY SAND AND GRAVEL
Core is moderately disturbed
Major lithology: CHERTY SAND and GRAVEL. Upper 20 cm of core consists of a (10YR 6/8) brownish yellow sand which fines upward from very coarse sand to very fine sand. Thelower 15 cm consists of yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) pebbles and cobbles composed of chert, limestone and shell fragments. Although graded bedding appears continuous over the wholecore it should be noted that the sand unit and the pebbles and cobbles were separated byseveral meters in the original liner. LITHOLOGIC DESCRIPTION
CHERT
The core is highly fractured.
Major lithology: CHERT, black (2.5Y 2/0, or N2) with some gray to light gray (2.5Y 6/0. and 7/0, or N6 and N7) chalcedony veins about 2 mm thick. Rare vugs are lined with white or blackquartz microcrystals. Chert piece at Section 2, 25 cm has an exposed vein surface coveredwith chalcopyrite.
Minor lithology: Limestone, light gray (5Y 6/1) in color. Horizontal streaks are secondarydissolution seams, not primary laminae.

LITHOLOGIC DESCRIPTION
LIMESTONE AND CHERT
The core is highly fractured.
Major lithologies:a. LIMESTONE, light greenish gray (5GY 7/1) and gray (N6) in color. Fragments of darkerchips, greenish gray (5GY 5/1) occur in Section 1, 73-75 cm. Inoceramus fragments occur ir,
and mottles are seen in Section 2. Microfaults contain sub-millimeter calcite veins. A lime-stone pebble in Section 2, 17 cm shows sharp sedimentary contact.b. CHERT: black (N2 or 2.5Y 2/0) with thin light gray (N7) chalcedony veinlets to 1 mmthickness. A piece in Section 1 has gray "tree ring" like laminations.

LITHOLOGIC DESCRIPTION
LIMESTONE AND CHERT
The core is highly fragmented.
Major lithologies:a. LIMESTONE, gray (5Y 5/1) to olive (5Y 4/3) in color. The limestone is weakly laminatedand mottled. Microfaults, fractures, and calcite and silica-filled fractures are common inSection 1.b. CHERT, black (5Y 2.5/1, 5Y 2.5/2) is present in discrete layers. In Section 1 chert ispresent at 10-15, 65, and 128 cm. It appears as a biscuit, often with a limestone rind on oneside. In Section 2 chert is present from 0-3, 20-60, and 83-88 cm. Light gray (N7) chalcedonyveinlets are observed.

LITHOLOGIC DESCRIPTION
LIMESTONE, CHERT AND DOLOMITE
The core is highly fragmented.
Major lithology: LIMESTONE, olive gray (5Y 5/2), very faint wavy laminations.
Minor lithology:a. Chert, black (N2), veinlets and coatings of chalcedony, rare vugs. Occasional shell
b. Dolomite, olive gray (5Y 5/2), large rhombs replacing limestone. Pieces show "sugary"surface texture. Rhombs are 50 to 90% of the rock.
