For the past few months, we have been mentioning an event on October 28. Since we are now in October, it is time to start registrations. Several members of the finance committee have been helping promote the event, but let me share some information about the content of the presentation and workbook you will take home. First, the presentation is offered through Texas Methodist Foundation, or TMF. This group of United Methodist investors and bankers help congregations with their investments,
loans, and other financial resources. Because of their broad connection, each conference has a TMF representative, and ours just happens to be someone I was in residency with. Carol Montgomery and I were ordained the same year and she has recently taken the reins as the representative for the North Texas Conference. Her role is to liaison with churches and serve as a pastor for the pastors in our conference. In addition, she offers various seminars and coaching opportunities for all area churches. Now, to the presentation itself. Russell Fomby, Rick Simmons, and I met with Carol to see what resources may be available to our congregation earlier this year. Through our meeting, she shared a presentation that deals with personal finances, legal decisions and documents, and a myriad of topics many of us have not thought about before. It is called “Putting Your House in Order” and aims to help individuals and families think about what they can put in order now to help alleviate stressors in the future. If you would like to see a copy of the workbook you will purchase for the seminar, we will have a copy available in the office. When you look through it, you will see some pages with information you never thought about, but also some pages with tools for things you know you should probably take care of. Carol will be coming to present this information and share how it can impact your life and the lives of your loved ones so I hope you will consider signing up for the presentation on October 28. As stewards of all God has given us, we are called to make sure we are responsible with all of our resources. Putting Your House in Order will help you plan and prepare for the future and be organized for your loved ones. If you have any questions about this seminar please do not hesitate to come by the office or drop me an email. Grace and peace, Pastor Adam

All Saints Day November 4, 2018
All Saints Day is a day the church will celebrate the lives of our loved ones who have gone home to the Lord in the past year or from the previous All Saints Day. Each year we remember these dear ones in both of our worship services. During the time of remembrance, the name of the individual will be announced, hand bells chimed, a white rose will be placed in a vase on
the altar, and a candle will be lit for the loved one. If you have a loved one that passed away after November 3rd, 2017 and would like for them to be remembered, please email a picture to the church office, along with loved one’s full name, and date of birth & date of death information. Send to: bridgethoenig@whitesborofumc.org or stop by the church office.

STEPHEN MINISTRY RECRUITING
It's that time again---time to consider if your gift might be to serve as a Stephen Minister. This rewarding work requires some commitment: the training is 50 hours, and when you are assigned to an individual you will meet for about an hour each week. It also requires a willingness to listen, without making judgments or giving advice, with the same kind
of grace that our wonderful Father shows to us.
Application forms and more information about the ministry will be available from Linda Harris. There is also a Spiritual Gifts survey that you may find useful in
deciding if this is a service for which you are suited.
Linda Harris will be meeting soon with the Stephen Leaders from Grace UMC and Covenant Presbyterian Church, both in Sherman, to plan the next series of training classes. If you would like more information about becoming a Stephen Minister, please contact Linda Harris at 940-634-2385 or at
okchoir1@gmail.com.
Training is scheduled to begin in January 2019.
Anyone interested in working in the Memorial Garden, Prayer Garden, Marquee Bed or anywhere else around the church grounds, excluding the lawn, is welcome to work with the Grayson County Master Gardeners on the 2nd Friday of each month at 9 am. We typically weed, deadhead perennials, reshape the plants, pick up trash and limbs, and cleanup the sidewalks during these work sessions. We welcome any participation from the congregation and conclude our work session with lunch at Lovejoy’s around 11 am. Feel free to join us for gardening fun and fellowship!

The church directory is an indispensable ministry tool for everyone to use. A church directory helps us to stay connected with the congregation. A directory serves multiple purposes and has been a regular fixture of our congregation for many, many years. Who doesn’t enjoy looking back to previous directories and seeing how the kids have grown?
A church directory helps new and older members to connect, it provides a tool to associate faces with names and to act as a source for contact information. Who hasn’t forgotten a name, but knows the face is familiar? Here’s the chance to review the picture of someone you have met at church—and make the connection.
We have contacted LifeTouch to begin the process of a new 2019 Church Directory. Mark your calendars for January 7, 8, and 9. Appointment times will be from 2:00—9:00 pm.
Call Pam Erlandson at 817-805-9829 or email: pece626@yahoo.com if you would like to help with our new directory, setting up appointments, reminders, or just be at the church during appointments.
A Great Gift for Your Loved Ones: Putting Your House in Order
Would you like to know that your generosity will continue even after your death? Have you had conversation
with your loved ones about the values you would most like to pass on?
Do you have a will? Have you thought about who should have your most precious possessions after you have died? Would you like to greatly relieve the stress upon your families when it comes time to plan your funeral? Do you know the
tax advantages of remembering the church and other charitable organizations in your legacy giving?
If you are interested in questions like these, you are invited to a workshop on October 28th at 5:30 p.m. called Putting Your House in Order, sponsored by the Texas Methodist Foundation. In addition to addressing some of the questions above, the workshop is meant to prepare you for a visit to the professionals who can most help you with your
particular wills and estate planning questions.
The workshop, led by Rev. Carol Montgomery, Area Representative of North Texas for TMF, includes a workbook in which a person can record all the important information that will help loved ones with funeral planning and with the
probate process. The workshop is free and the workbook will cost $10 per participant.
Meal will be served at 5:30, Presentation will begin at 6:00-7:00 pm in Wesley Hall.

The Story of Metallic Sonrise
by Barbara Bailey
Church Historian
This story should start with “Once upon a time….”, but this is not a fairy tale as you will see. God had a plan for
this horse as you will read in the story below.
Conceived in 2009 and born in the spring of April 2010…this filly to be named Metallic Sonrise, was born
to Long Red Curls (belonging to Brightstone Ranch) and a Leading Sire, Metallic Cat (belonging to Alvin Fults).
The birth of Metallic Sonrise was not an easy one. The following story was given to me by Keith Feister, owner of
Brightstone Ranch.
“When we were breeding the mare, only one follicle was tracked and ovulated, so she was
scheduled for another embryo flush 8 days later. When I did the flush and recovered and processed an 8-day size
embryo, I thought I was finished…something made me go back and search again (which I never did before), and
much to my surprise, I found another tiny 6-day size embryo!! As soon as I saw that embryo thru the microscope,
I thought of it as a blessing from God, and it had to be his. Both embryos were transferred into recipient mares
and both worked. When the recipients were about 6 months pregnant, one got a severe case of colic. I took her
to the hospital and the vet did all he could, short of surgery, which he said had to be done to save her. I could not
afford surgery, I admitted her to the hospital. That night, I prayed to God to save her. The next morning the vet
called and said there wasn’t any improvement during the night. When he got back from his morning visits he said
she should be euthanized. I prayed to God again. The vet called me around 2pm and said the mare had improved
since he last saw her in the early morning and now was optimistic she was going to be ok. I brought her home the
next day. I guess that was God’s way of telling me which one was his!! (if that doesn’t confirm your belief in God,
nothing would!!) I made the decision then, that I would give this horse to God by donating her to the youth group
of the First United Methodist Church. While I was raising them, my filly acquired OCD’s in her hocks and needed
to have surgery (I guess that was a test!!) When they came in from the pasture in October before the sale, my barn
was full, and I asked Tamara Kyle if they could sale prep Metallic Sonrise at Kyle Ranch. Tamara and Pete Kyle sale
prepped her and even hauled her to the sale. In December 2011, the FUMC youth group went to the sale in Ft
Worth during the NCHA Cutting Futurity and was down in the sale ring when she was sold. Metallic Sonrise sold
for $10,000.”
The sale company did not take any catalog fees or commission from the sale. Keith Feister
instructed the sale company to send the entire amount ($10,000) to the youth group at Whitesboro First United
Methodist Church. Metallic Sonrise was purchased by Mr. Tzvika Knaani, from Israel, where he shipped her back
to her new home in Israel.”
I would like to add that God still had a plan for this horse by bringing her back to the birthplace of his son.
And… “ lived happily ever after.”

October Communion Rail Offering:
General Church Missions - when you give to the communion rail you are helping support our church ministry above and beyond our four walls. Your dollars may stay here in Whitesboro or they may help in other areas of the state/country.
Donations to the General Church Missions made the teacher goody bags possible and lets not forget the Flood Buckets we sent last year after the hurricane in south Texas.
The Communion rail offering is over what is given to the General Budget. Several ministries are supported by the communion rail offering. Summer Lunch and Back to School Supplies, the Benevolent Fund just to name a few.
Because “General Church Missions doesn't have a named benefactor; it is just as important as the other programs supported by the church.
Our October communion rail offering will benefit the General Church Missions. It’s like a saving for a rainy day fund—we don’t know where the dollars are going yet but trust in your church leadership that they will be well spent as we fulfill our promise to God. Walking humbly, helping the needy, spreading the word of Jesus, and loving our neighbors.
