How did you feel when Reid proposed?

I reacted with complete gratitude. I know that gratitude may be a strange choice of words. But, I was completely grateful to Reid for choosing me to be his partner in life forever.

Did you do the “traditional” something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue?

I did! My something old was my beautiful heirloom veil that both my grandmother and mother had worn on their wedding day. My wedding dress was the “new”. Something

borrowed? I attached a charm from my grandmother’s bracelet with my Dad’s name on it to my bouquet along with a pendant from a necklace that my late grandfather had given me. My aunt gave me a navy handkerchief with a yellow “R” embroidered on it for my something “blue”.

Speaking of wedding gowns…yours is

stunning. Please tell us about it.

My dress was the ultimate wedding dress. I wanted to feel like a princess. It was a ball gown with a sweetheart neckline and a full tulle skirt with beading under the bodice. As I said, I wore our family’s heirloom veil and I truly felt like a princess.

Did you have a traditional wedding

ceremony?

I feel like the whole wedding was completely ours. We have a great friend who was ordained just so he could perform our ceremony, so we created the entire ceremony and vows. It was wonderful - we used verses and sayings that were meaningful to our relationship.

The lemons looked beautiful! How

did you decide on lemons?

When I thought of spring colors - I thought of yellow- and then I thought of lemons. I didn’t really have a

theme, but I wanted something combining traditional, simple and modern. The flowers combined with lemons gave the centerpieces a clean and modern style. I loved the lemons!

What were in the cute bags at the

place settings?

We put two lemon drops into the bags and tied them with a navy ribbon. These set atop the handwritten thank you cards.

What was the first song you danced to

at the reception?

Our first song was “ You are the Best

Thing” by Ray LaMontagne. We took dance lessons before the wedding so we would “shine” on the dance floor. Flash forward to the first dance: the music starts and we look at each with the “deer in the headlights“ look ... we had forgotten EVERYTHING!! We just started laughing and did the best we could. This was our first lesson about being married - learning the dance as we go along in our life together.

Do you have any favorite memories?

I have so many! • Oneofmyspecialmemorieswas

our wedding day. We saw each other before the ceremony and it was an amazingly emotional moment. We were able to take a deep breathe and enjoy a those few minutes between us.

• Irodetheelevatordownstairsandwhen the doors opened there was my dad waiting for me. I felt like his little girl again.

• IlovedseeingReidandhismomdancing together - the love in her eyes for Reid was almost blinding. She was glowing!

You left the reception in an awesome

vintage truck!

I loved it because I went to OSU and

Reid loved it because it was such a cool vintage truck. A friend lent it to us and it was the perfect getaway car!

Any closing thoughts?

Our wedding was absolutely amazing and it was because the people surrounding us cared so much. I couldn’t have asked for a better day or be more blessed with my life.

Looks we love...Lemons, lemons everywhere. The romantic setting. Gorgeous wedding shoes. A couple so obviously in love.

Did you invite children to your wedding?Kids can be fun and a delight to have around but when it comes to your wedding day be sure to have plenty to entertain them. We love when brides put together play packs for their young guests. These play packs can include coloring pages, small boxes of crayons and anything else kids can do quietly during the ceremony. At the reception, be sure to serve kid friendly food, possibly a small buffet with mac and cheese, pizza and chicken strips. A movie in a play area or someone to entertain the children while the adults celebrate will help ensure your special day will run smoothly.

every special occasion since they met, including games he has played in and games they

have attended. Her good friend was so sweet to do the calligraphy on the baseballs.

Wearing a classic wedding gown that was entirely lace, Tara was every bit the beautiful

spring bride. Tara felt a gown with an interesting back was a must because, as she said,

“the back of the gown was what people would see during the ceremony.” Her stunning

bouquet was made of hydrangeas in varying shades of purple, white and blue and

accented with roses - beautiful!

Dancing to “How Sweet It Is”, the happy couple led the way to a wonderful evening

of dinner and dancing in the front lawn of her families home - the same lawn that has

hosted birthday parties, Thanksgiving day football championships and Easter egg hunts

since Tara was born and has now hosted their wedding reception on what Tara says is

“the biggest day of her life.” Tara adds, “ It was so wonderful to share something that

means so much to me with all the people I love.”

The Bridal Boutique in Norman, OK., is a favorite of ours. We love the selections of gowns and owner, Jenny Dillon, has some valuable advice she has gathered after years of experience in helping brides find the perfect dress. We asked her to share her advice on how to maximize your bridal gown shopping experience. Here is what she had to say:

Jenny encourages a bride to “Plan ahead, plan ahead, plan ahead. Please understand that a gown ordered today will take 6-8 months to arrive!” Everyone needs alterations which could take an additional month. You want this dress to fit you perfectly because you will be the center of attention!

Brides are wise to tell their consultant what their budget is from the initial viewing so there are no disappointments. Your consultant can usually help you find a gown in any price point. Trust her. She has your best interests at heart and wants you to be happy with your selection.

Many brides come to an appointment and believe they should order the same size dress they wear now or plan on losing weight and order a size smaller. Jenny

WI Expert Advice

Your bridal gown will probably be the largest

fashion purchase of your life…

55 A Bride’s Guide www.okcweddingideas.com

says, “Don’t do it!” We were interested to learn that there is little resemblance between regular retail sizing and wedding dresses. Jenny tells us that you always order up and usually two sizes or more. Don’t let this be discouraging to you…it’s the bridal industry sizing. Many brands come from Europe where the sizing is different from U.S. sizing. Jenny points out that it is much easier to take in a dress that is too large than to remake a too small gown into a larger one.

You will seldom be able to come in and select a gown off the rack. Some bridal

salons have a sample rack and you may be lucky enough to find a gown you love in your size, but you still should shop early and allow plenty of time to find the “right” gown.

Jenny tells us that it is a misconception

that you will just “know” when you find “the dress” and that it is a hugely emotional moment. This is just not true. Brides typically choose a dress made on a more practical and intellectual level that is based on their personality, style of wedding, season of wedding and looks they have found in magazines.

Here are some points Jenny recommends that you remember:

1. Again, plan ahead. Allow at least 8 months to receive your gown, if possible.

2. Bridal salons request you make an appointment. They want to give you the best service possible and time to enjoy trying on dresses.

3. The salon will insist on having a consultant in the room to help you with the gown. The dresses are sometimes difficult to maneuver and you will appreciate a knowledgeable person assisting you.

4. Please let your consultant know your budget - don’t fall in love with a gown you can’t afford.

5.Choose wisely who you bring with you to select your dress. This will likely be the largest fashion purchase of your life. Bring people who have your best interests at heart and whose opinion you value and trust. They should be supportive, objective and focus on you, the bride. You will want this to be a relaxed and memorable experience. After all, it is your day, your dress and your wedding.
