STORAGE CONCEPT 2 dOuBLE dEEP PALLET RACKING
Double deep racking uses standard Selective racking components to store pallets two deep (or four deep in a double entry rack). Double deep racking maximises storage through increased density compared to Selective racking but with reduced pallet accessibility. Special forklifts with forward reach ability are required to use this storage method. Lower level stock is required to be stored on beams just above the ground adding to rack safety and stability.

STORAGE CONCEPT 3 NARROw AISLE RACKING
Narrow aisle racking utilises high level retrieval equipment with reduced operational space requirements to increase storage capacity. Narrow aisle racking is a high density storage system with direct access to all pallets ensuring the best stock rotation.
High rise storage racks require specialised handling equipment in order to load and unload racks. Guiderails or electronic guidance systems can be fitted to assist these machines and protect the structural integrity of the racking. See page 30 for more details.

STORAGE CONCEPT 4 dRIvE-IN RACKING
Drive-in racking allows the maximum use of space and volume due to the elimination of access aisles. The storage volume is therefore more than doubled compared with standard pallet racking. Ideal for cold storage and dry store goods, drive-in racking is suitable for businesses that have high pallet quantities, but don’t require fast stock rotation and immediate accessibility
Unique self-centring pallet rails enable pallets to be positioned quickly and safely, reducing operator time. Conventional forklift trucks are suitable for access to stock within drive-in racking. Drive-in racking operates on a First-In Last-Out stock rotation basis.

STORAGE CONCEPT 5 PuSh BACK RACKING
Push back racking systems are similar to Drive-In racking systems in that pallets are stored in lanes up to five pallets deep. Push-back racking is ideal for storing pallets in cool rooms and areas where space is at a premium and products can be stored without requiring immediate accessibility.
Push back racking utilises nesting trolleys that operate within each lane. The pallet is gravity fed to the front of the rack meaning that the next pallet is always ready for easy picking. Additional pallets can be added to a lane at any time by simply pushing the first pallet back and placing the new pallet onto a freshly exposed trolley.
Push-back racking provides a high density storage solution using First-In Last-Out stock rotation. Racking damage is reduced as the forklift never enters the racking.

The design of Superbuild components are a result of rigorous technical testing and years of accumulated knowledge and market experience. Frames are made from prime quality, certified, high tensile hot dipped galvanised steel providing a high level of durability and resilience. This treatment process, known as Sendzimir provides a superior level of corrosion resistance. All the structural components are made from high tensile steel, certified according to EN 10204 3.1b.
Superbuild beams are painted in yellow RAL 1004 (standard colour) according to the following procedure:
• hot wash degreasing and iron phosphate pre-treatment
• Application of thermosetting powder paint
• curing at a temperature of approx. 240°c in a force ventilated air circulation oven
The welded beam end connector has five anchor points, three of them operating in tension and two in compression, providing better connection to the upright with increased load capability. Grooves on top of the beams are used to locate and support modular heavy duty steel shelf panels and pallet support bars for the storage of non-palletised and special goods.

GuIdERAIL - KEEPING A STRAIGhT COuRSE
Guiderails are installed to provide order picking machine guidance. These rails are often installed with narrow aisle racking to maximise space and maintain the integrity of the pallet racking by minimising damage. Guiderails are constructed from steel rails 100mm high x 75mm wide x 8mm thick and are powder coated in Safety Orange or Safety Yellow to increase visibility.
wIRE GuIdANCE - uSING TEChNOLOGy
Wire Guidance or “drive-by-wire” guidance systems are electronic wires embedded into the concrete floor in the warehouse. These wires provide a guiding track for order picking machines to follow. This method is very accurate and can significantly reduce damage to storage racks and downtime due to costly repairs.
In-aisle steering and end-aisle braking is incorporated in the wire guidance system, adding to warehouse safety and operator comfort.

Modular cantilever racking for the storage of long goods.Unicant, the cantilever system manufactured by metalsistem, is made from modular components able to provide optimal storage solutions in terms of volume and load bearing capacity. The Unicant cantilever rack is entirely self supporting and freestanding. All structural components of the Unicant cantilever racking are made from steel sections ranging from IPE180 to IPE300. The wide range of profile dimensions provides a broad scope of load bearing capabilities: from 355kg to 2000kg for the cantilever arms; and up to 35,000kg for the columns.

uNICANT CANTILEVER ACCESSORIES
Unicant cantilever racking is available with a variety of arm options.
A. Standard cantilever arm.

The Unicant cantilever arms can be accessorised with steel planks, thus creating open storage levels clear of obstacles. The addition of steel planks – available in three different versions, smooth, moulded or perforated – allow goods of varying volume as well as pallets of varied dimensions to be stored with maximum ease.
Entrance crescents allow goods to be loaded safely by providing an angled face which helps goods to slide onto the arm.
End stops are available on cantilever arms providing perfect storage for pipes and other long items. End stops are removable to allow easy loading and unloading.
Cantilever arms with spool holders are available as a custom item for storing drums or reels whilst allowing the reel to be used freely.

RACK SAfETy AudITS
In order to maintain the integrity of your racking and compliance with Australian Standard AS4084, it is imperative that your racking is regularly audited and checked for any damage. It is a current requirement that all storage racking is audited every 12 months.
Worksafe Victoria recommends Bowen Storage as quality rack safety auditors.
We provide detailed site inspections, comprehensive reporting and quality advice regarding safe storage practices in order to comply with current Worksafe and WHS regulations. Contact us to arrange your next Rack Safety Audit.
RACKING REPAIRS
Damaged racking components need to be repaired or replaced as soon as possible to eliminate possible accidents, some of which could be potentially fatal or at least prove very expensive if left unattended to. Damage to pallet racking has negative effects on warehouse productivity and efficiency. PEdESTRIAN SAfETy
Keeping pedestrians safe and protected from machinery, forklifts and other vehicles is very important. Workcover regulations call for the separation of “plant and pedestrians” which means employers must create physical division between forklifts and pedestrians.
Our Logirail and gate systems allow you to identify pedestrian walkways and create fixed barriers between pedestrians and forklifts thereby reducing the risk of accidents and injury. Our Logirail system is made up of stanchions, handrails, knee rails, kick rails and safety gates. The flexibility of the system enables it to be configured to your exact requirements. Standard finish is hot dip galvanised with other colour options available including powder coated and stainless steel finishes.
Pedestrian safety gates, visible crossing zones, graphic floor decals, traffic management signage and other safety signage can be fitted to help you achieve safety compliance and peace of mind in the warehouse. For more details regarding stanchions refer to mezzanine chapter on page 92.
