6.8 Remote CPE Management
The remote CPE function is required for handling external customer premises equipment that do not support an NMS capability but areequipped with an RS-232 interface for management.
The remote CPE function enables the LCI user at the BS-BU to gainaccess and control over an external device connected to one of itsTS-BU(s) as if the user is operating directly through its terminal.
WALKair acts as a transparent pipe and delivers commands and responseinformation from the user at the BS-BU to the external equipment andbackwards with no interference in the data itself. In addition, all alarms of
the external device are reported to the BS-BU and handed to the NMS(when installed) via a trap report. This function is active whether or not theremote CPE is initiated.

9.3 Loop Back TestingThe following are descriptions of the types of loop back testing supportedby WALKair. Local (L) loop back
Local loop back disconnects the RX lines from the receiver. The dataprovided by the system interface is routed through the analog receiver back to the system interface. This test is used to check the FALC.
Remote (R) loop backIn remote loop back testing, the clock and data recovered from the lineinputs are routed back to the line outputs via the analog or digitaltransmitter. This loop back is used for remote self-testing.
Payload (P) loop backPayload loop back loops the data stream from the receiver sectionback to the transmitter section. The looped data passes the completereceiver including the wander and jitter compensation in the receiveelastic store.
