Goal of the Oral Health ProgramTo promote good oral health to people of

Who is Eligible for Dental Clinic Services?
Any child in the Saskatoon Health Region age 0 to 16
Must need dental treatment
No dental coverage
Limited dental insurance and face barriers to using dental coverage

Fluoride Varnish
• Fluoride varnish prevents cavities by:reversing demineralization (early tooth decay)stopping active decay
• Fluoride is painted on to dry teeth with a brush for 20 to 30 seconds
• Children should not brush until the next day and avoid sticky foods
1,279 children age 0 to 5 received fluoride (2009-10)

Public health nurses distribute this package to all new parents at the post-natal home visit and discuss oral health

Child Health Clinics (CHC)
PHN’s provide anticipatory guidance on oral health at 6, 12, and 18 months, and 4 years of age
At each CHC visit, child receives a toothbrush, and parent receives written information on oral health
Over 12,000 anticipatory guidance consultations in 2009-10
