Q.When SU is in the top
10, what has the recordbeen against top-10 teams? When we have not been in thetop 10, what has the recordbeen?
84orangefan fro the blog
Mike Water: This ques-tion came in response to arecent mailbox question on JimBoeheims record vs. top-10teams. That answer was 49-58.
Upon closer inspection,Syracuse is 17-20 against top-10 teams when the Orange
is also ranked in the top 10.Meanwhile, Syracuse is 32-38against top-10 teams when theOrange is outside the top 10.
Q.Why does the Big Eastschedule the home-and-away league opponents so closetogether instead of spacing themout?
Doug in Oneida
Water: The task of puttingtogether the Big Easts confer-ence schedule falls to associatecommissioner Tom Odjakjianand its an impossible process.Television commitments causeproblems and so does the BigEasts bloated membership, butthe real issue is arena availabil-ity.
The Big East has moreschools that share public build-ings than any other conferencein the country. Georgetown,Seton Hall, DePaul, Marquette,St. Johns, Villanova andProvidence all share arenas withprofessional teams.
Odjakjian has to give eachteam an equal number of week-end and weekday games, avoidlengthy home-stands or roadtrips, accommodate television
agreements and do it in alimited number of
open dates in halfof his arenas.
