Other information:• Cross laminated timber (CLT)- strong engineered wood

formed by gluing lumber layers together at right angles to each other.

• CLT is usually used for high rise buildings or in this case it is used to achieve long spans.

• The roof is held by only 13 columns.• The viewing platform and vending kiosk are suspended

from the roof using chain-link fencing without any additional supports.

• The columns connect to the roof using steel tongue plate bolted to the columns, which passes through a slot in the CLT (CLT is recessed for the plate to sit flush with the surface on which DPM and gravel goes on top.)

• The columns themselves are glulam sections, held off the ground by a similar tongue plate at the base. Source:

Other information:• The entire structure consists of pine

lumber. • Strips of lumber are 50x203mm and is

arranged in the manner of a textile mill supported by compression by a 90mm diameter steel tube that crosses and articulates the pieces.

• This geometry confers the project a dynamic quality, making it seem paused in movement.

• There is also some sort of foundation to which the steel plate is fixed to, on 6 nuts

Other information:• This pavilion is a competition winner for temporary installations mainly built from

scarp lumber.• Part of the roof construction sits on top of the shipping container which provides

structural support and thereby reduces costs. • The minimal space meets the functional needs, providing sheltered environment

that also acts as storage and display.• Materials were selected on the criteria of ease, speed, and clarity of construction. • Douglas Fir lumber was used that is relatively cheap and long term durability was

achieved using small strips of concrete slabs which provide a sufficient structural foundation.

• The webbing that binds the lumber together projects outwards at the facade so as to support an assortment of linear materials.

Other information:• The pavilion is made from prefabricated

glulam members and interconnected fiberglass pods.

• This pavilion was inspired by the tortoise shell, and its geometry required each structural beam to be bent on three axes.

• The structures’ span is about 9 meters, in which twelve steel hinges on either side of the foundations form the base.

• Not only the structure is fastened with screws and bolt but also nail plates were used for constructing each dome which can be seen in the picture to the left.

• Glulam timber- is a type of structural engineered wood which consist of a number of layers of dimensioned lumber bonded together with durable, moisture-resistant structural adhesives.
