With the addition of new customers,
dispatch would like to ask the driver's to
please fill out customer profile sheets
whenever they see something that
doesn't match what we have in our
system i.e...parking, phone numbers,
hours, directions, etc. This also goes for
customers that are not new, but may
have changed their parking and/or
directions.
SDA: If at all possible, I know being busy
unloading the trailers takes time, but I
would like to ask that all SDA drivers to
please take your cell phones into the
trailers while you unload. Just helps for
dispatch to reach you if needed.

Safety Department Winter driving tips:
Be prepared. Plan your trip accordingly by checking weather forecasts and possible construction areas along
your route, chart fuel and meal stop locations, and allow extra time for traffic delays. The Weather Channel has a
tool that allows you to receive severe weather alerts in your area on your phone via email or text message.
Do a thorough pre-trip inspection. Do a visual, hands-on inspection and check all important items, including
tires, wiper blades and fluid and lights. Check your vehicle often. Also, shifting product and icy roads are not a
good combination. If possible, drivers should monitor the shipper's loading procedures to ensure weight has been
evenly distributed within their trailer.
Slow down and give yourself extra space. Compensate for poor traction by slowing down and making all
movements gently - never drive faster than conditions allow. Double or triple your following distance and
never tailgate. Keeps at least a ten second following distance when driving on snow and ice covered
roads. Turn OFF the cruise control - Don't use cruise control on icy roads.
Beware of black ice. Black ice can fool drivers into thinking its water. This shiny form of ice is one of the most
slippery road conditions. Black ice is likely to form first under bridges & overpasses, in shady spots & at
intersections. Bridges & overpasses freeze before roadways.
Braking and accelerating. Drivers need to be aware of becoming overconfident if they have antilock brakes. If
the brakes happen to lock, release them to avoid sliding. This will help to regain steering. Always brake gently
to avoid skidding.
Don't ask your truck to do more than it can. If you don't feel comfortable driving, park it!
ALWAYS wear your seat belt!!

Health News
Six Steps to a Healthy Heart! There are many ways you can prevent the onset of heart disease — and keep it from worsening if you have been diagnosed with a specific heart issue. Here are some time-tested heart-disease prevention strategies to initiate.
Eat Fiber. Eating more vegetarian fare may help lower your cholesterol and reduce your risk for heart disease. There are lots of ways to incorporate more fiber in your diet: Dietitians suggest eating whole grains such as oatmeal, barley, quinoa, and brown rice; beans and lentils; and nuts, seeds, and fruit.
Watch your Weight. Carrying too much weight is a key risk factor for heart disease, and it affects the majority of Americans — between 60 and 70 percent are either overweight or obese. Obesity also puts you at risk for other health problems related to heart disease, like stroke and diabetes. You don’t need to lose a drastic amount of weight to start reaping the heart benefits; it could be a matter of losing 15 pounds, or 10 percent of your body weight.
Exercise Regularly. The American Heart Association recommends getting 30 minutes of exercise most days of the week. Staying fit can improve your heart health in countless ways, such as helping to lower blood pressure, manage your weight, lower cholesterol, control your blood sugar, and even reduce stress. And if there are days when fitting in even half an hour seems impossible, break it into shorter intervals — a 10-minute walk in the morning, another at lunchtime, and then 10 minutes at night.
Read Labels. Following a heart-healthy diet means watching your sodium, sugar, and fat intake, since these are tied to heart disease risk factors like high blood pressure and high cholesterol. In general, packaged foods aren’t as healthy as fresh, so it’s important to read food labels to really understand what you’re eating.
Get a Good Night’s Sleep. Poor sleep is tied to a number of risk factors for heart disease, including high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes, and heart failure, as well as a sleep disorder called sleep apnea.
Stay Positive. Depression and stress have both been shown to harm cardiovascular health. So, if you find yourself feeling angry or stressed out, do something relaxing, like taking a long walk or joining a yoga class.
