comfortable. Kavala is a principalsea port in Eastern Macedonia

under Greek rule with a populationof about 70,000 and situated across

the island of Thasos.

July 20, 2014: This morning we left Nea Vrasna for Salonica, the biggest city in this part of Macedonia. The toppicture on previous page is the Salonica waterfront with the “White Tower” seen in the background. Thesecond picture is part of the monument of Alexander of Macedon III - the Great (above). The next pages showpictures of the “White Tower” and Salonica’s skyline from the top of the tower which has a cylindrical form 23m in diameter with a height of 34 m above ground level. July 20, 2014: Pella as seen above is now a small town but in antiquity it was the capital of Macedonia andthe birth place of Alexander of Macedon - the Great. Few hundred meters west of the present town is the

ancient town with all the archeological finds which are exhibited in the museum (bellow).
