Mass in Spanish Spanish Mass is offered on the second and fourth Sundays of each month at 9:30 a.m.
January Masses in Spanish will be on Jan. 10 & 24.
This week’s readings: The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Nathan the prophet is the source for reminding us that God said he, “will raise up your heir after you, sprung from your loins, and I will make his kingdom firm. I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. As Christians, we believe this is a reference to Jesus being raised up. As wonderful as David may have been to God, this scripture points toward one who is even more in line with whom God has in mind, his son, Jesus.
We then shift to the familiar story of Mary responding to Gabriel. It is interesting that Gabriel means “God is my strength”, which appears to echo with Mary herself, who relies on God’s strength to make good his promise, even as improbable as it may seem. As we prepare for Christmas, whom do we rely on for our strength?
Next week’s readings: The Epiphany of the LordAccording to merriam-webster.com, one definition is “usually sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something (2): an intuitive grasp of reality through something (such as an event) usually simple and striking (3): an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure, b: a revealing scene or moment.”How many of us have had an epiphany? A moment where we could suddenly see clearly? Or, perhaps a moment when God touched our hearts or minds and we became aware of his presence in a unique way? Perhaps it was sudden and unexpected while we were doing something routine, or perhaps it occurred while we were at prayer. Such events can leave a lasting impression on us. Paul states, “that the mystery was made known to
me by revelation.” Has God touched our hearts? Have we responded? We hear the story of the magi arriving in Jerusalem. They obviously had experienced or learned something that moved them to travel a great distance seeking out someone they had never met. They even were willing to upset the political applecart to follow through on what had impacted them. Have we been impacted by Jesus’ birth? If so, how are we responding?

Tech CornerPope Francis has declared the new liturgical year as the Year of St. Joseph. “All the faithful will thus have the opportunity to commit
themselves, with prayers and good works, to obtain with the help of Saint Joseph, head of the celestial Family of Nazareth, comfort and relief from the serious human and social tribulations that today grip the contemporary world,” the decree states. Pope Francis also added
indulgence opportunities to the decree. The decree explains four ways to obtain a plenary indulgence throughout this liturgical year.
Read what an Indulgence is and how to obtain it in the recent FaithIN-
WV bulletin from our Diocese found at https://dwc.org/download/faith_in_wv_bulletin/FaithInWV_EBulletin_December-13-2020.pdf.
