The need for higher bitrate has no upper bound

Mobile systems are expected to offer the same rate as fixed systems

By reducing the cell size, more capacity in the mobile system for each user is made available

Fewer users per base station

In the end, each user his own base station

When this is not enough..?

Dynamic Spectrum Allocation of frequencies

The hidden node problem. The cognitive radio does not detect the TV broadcaster, but disturbs the TV

Data associated with radio terminal #1Parameters:1 Tx power in frequency slot #2 Received noise/signal quality in frequency slot #3 Type of service requested4 Connectivity beteween terminals No X/Y5 Location

Calulate simplified magic function

Compare simplified magic functions

Data replication by exchange of relevant (frequency, area) files

Conclusion

• We (FFI/UNIK) work on:

– Waterfilling algorithms– Data replication– Routing– Security aspects– Simulation

We want to contribute to an international standard
