It’s Time To Start Our Snow Dance!
Hi everyone,
By the time you’re reading this edition of the LiftLine, the Snow and Ski Expo and the Applicant Party have come and gone. Thank you to Bobby D. for chairing the Snow and Ski Expo. Seventy-seven new applicants were signed up over the three-day event. Nice job.
Did you attend the Applicant Party? If not, you missed out on a great time. Thirty-two new applicants signed up at the Applicant Party. Thank you to Gail, Chad and Stephanie and all the volunteers for a great party. It was a rousing success. Also, the first ski bus of the season has run making the trip to Killington on the 24th. Hopefully, some of you were able to make

that first bus. If not, it is only the start with many more ski days ahead. Let’s all continue our snow dances and prayers to the snow gods. I also hope you and your families had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Please continue to check the club’s website as well as Committee articles in this edition of LiftLine for activities and events. Questions regarding activities, events, etc. should be addressed to the appropriate Committee Chair or VP. Vol-unteers are always needed and welcomed. Helping out with a committee is a good way to knock off the volunteer hours re-quired by applicants for membership.
The December Board Meeting will be held on Thursday, December 5th and all are welcome to attend.
Wishing you and your families a won-derful holiday season,

Well, I hope you all enjoyed the Ski and Snowboard Expo Nov. 1-3. We signed up many new applicants and brought back some lapsed memberships! The booth looked great and everyone had fun in true OC fashion! Congrats to Joyce who won a season pass to Bromley!!! We rolled right into the Applicant Party with many prizes given out, the Warren Miller Movie– where a ski day to Sugarbush and one to Windham were given out – and into our first ski bus of the season to Killington! All before Thanksgiving! We do seem to be busy, busy, busy in November!
Here it is December already. The last month of 2013 and buses are running weekly. The first weekend trip – to Okemo
- will run December 13-15 (as I write, there are still ~10 spots)– with the Sunday Bus meeting up there - and our first Friday bus will be on the 13th to Stratton! And so the season begins with speed from here on out! Get out there, on those buses or trips and have a blast.
Please note - ALL of our trips are open and some still have room! Let’s fill them up to capacity. Members, AND Applicants too, can sign up, but you need to commit soon as the resorts have time frames we must meet. Sounds like they are all far off in time, but, time flies when you are having fun on those slopes, so we need to prepare in advance! We have room for many more for Smugglers Notch MLK Weekend in January (a wonderful trip where the whole crew is in one building- but IF we get a sign-up landslide, we can flow over into another one!); 3 more needed for Winter Park (Feb.), 4 more for Breckenridge (Feb.),
3 to fill the buses to Sunday River (Feb.). Stowe and Sugarbush (March) have lots of room and are our FINAL trips of the season. We ALWAYS have a blast and they are a GREAT Way to end what promises to be a FABULOUS ski season. !! SIGN UP for all the trips you can afford – the cost is very reasonable. As always, if you want one of the other trips that are full, get on the WAIT LIST! We almost always end up using that list to fill any cancellations. Have questions????? Email the Trip Leaders at “octripname@ocskiclub.org”(i.e.: ocwinterpark@ocskiclub.org), link through the Website to the appropriate Committee head or Vice President, or come see us at meetings. For those of you who are new, it can be overwhelming to see all those people at meetings, all ages, all types, but trust me, just go up to a table and start the conversation...we are all busy (or maybe look like we are), but will take the time to chat, answer questions, or direct you to the correct table for the updated information you need. Hope to see you on those buses- I may have a Jello shot or other sweet treat to share with you! (if I don’t, I know someone - or three - who will!)
Hope you enjoy whatever Holiday you celebrate! Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, Winter Solstice… more importantly
“HAPPY SKI SEASON” :~)

Looking forward to a great season....I will have schedules at the OC booth as well.
Since I will be at Sunday River, I will need a bus leader for the Feb. 15 bus....need to commit to going to the meeting on the 13th to take sign ups and then going on the bus.
I’ve been busy contacting areas to find the best date for our buses to go and have a tentative schedule.
As you all know our buses leave from Crossgates Mall at 8 a.m. and depending on our destination, we may have stops in Brunswick at the Walmart or Exit 9 of the Northway if heading north. If our destination is around 2 hours or longer, we will be departing at 7:30 a.m. Instead of leaving mountain at 4. we would depart at 4:30.
We are going to start our season on Jan. 4 with a trip to Prospect, followed by a Happy Hour at Madison Ave Brew Pub in Bennington. Buses will depart Prospect at 4 and the brewery at 6:30.
Jan 11 to Mt. Van Hoevenberg...7:30 departure
Jan 18 to Lapland
Jan 25 to Mountain Top....7:30 departure
Feb 1 to Garnet Hill
Feb 8 to Mountain Trails
Feb 15 to Notch View
Feb 22 to Osceola....7:30 departure
March 1 and beyond to be in another LiftLine......stay tuned.

Welcome New Applicants!
Hello All,
I hope you all had a great November and a wonderful Thanksgiving. There is nothing like a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. The leftovers would have been perfect to bring as a lunch for skiing the next day, which I am sure some of you did. This is going to be a great year to hit the slopes! So many ski areas are already open- let us keep on snow dancing so they stay that way.
Speaking of snow, we had a great turnout for new signups at the snow show. Because of that ,we consequently had a great turnout at the applicant party. Thank you to Bobby D. for being a great team leader at the show and to all who helped him out. More thanks go out to the mem-bership/applicant team of Gail, Stephanie and Chad for all of their work signing people up at the show and for arranging such a fun party! Thank you for sitting at that table all year long and helping people to join the club and share in the fun.
This month brings more partying! I hope to see you at the holiday party, which is going to be at Portofino’s in Latham on December 6th. I also hope to see you at the monthly happy hour, which will be held at The Hollow on Pearl Street on December 18th. Tis the season for celebrating and contemplating on the past year. As always, keep an eye on the website for updates and details on events. I am looking for-ward to a lot of fun events in 2014!
See you out and about and on the slopes, Erin

Cynthia Ward has taken the time out of her schedule to put together an info sheet regarding the benefits of the New York Capital District Ski Council. For instance, did you know as an Out of Control Member, you are automatically a member of the NYCDSC. Thank you Cynthia for your hard work!See the full article on the next page.
Updates from the New York Capital District Ski Council meeting: 11//13/13

All trips will be schedule in between OC scheduled trips. • There are a great deal of promotional items that the council purchased for the Ski Expo, but due to lack of customers, the promotionals weren’t given out. As a result, the giveaways will now available for purchase on the NYCDSC website. You can purchase the items via PayPal right on the website.• Website is www.nycdsc.org• There will be more Council Days posted on the website in the near future for skiing discounts at various mountains in the Northeast. • Ski Council Fun Day, kind of like OC’s Winter Carnival, is tentatively scheduled for the same day that the Ski Council sponsored race at Pico. Come join in the fun and support your fellow racers!

alpine bus committee
Ok, so the buses are rolling. Have you been on a ski day yet? If not. now is the time to get started. Get that first day under
your feet so you’ll be ready when the big snows come. Pre-Christmas is great as the crowds are small so you get plenty of ski time in. A great way to prime up for the season.
OK, so last month we reviewed the bus procedures. You can always find the bus procedures on the OC web site for future reference. We are also happy to answer any questions. See us at the weekly OC meetings or send us an email at ocbus@ocskiclub.org. All important bus information is posted to the Home page of the Website.
This month we’d like to review how we organize buses and what to expect on a bus ride. Information regarding where to meet the bus & when it leaves is in the bus procedure information on the Web site. Here is what you can typically expect:
ONE BUS RUNNING TO SKI AREA Typically early & late season and weekdays (Mon-Fri)You can get the full mix of OC member types with the usual diehards for Friday’s & Sunday’s buses. So be aware that this bus will have a lively atmosphere especially on the ride home. There will be adults having a grand OC time with their friends. We can’t control the volume but they will respect your space & comfort. If you want a little quieter space, sit up front.
TWO BUSES RUNNING TO SKI AREATypically Sundays run 2 Buses & snowy Fridays Bus 1 is the adult bus and Bus 2 is designated the family bus on Sundays. Bus 1 will be like the above “single bus” environment. Bus 2 will accept families and will be quieter than an adult bus BUT note that OC members are 21 yrs. & older so there will be drinking & adult conversation on a “family” bus. Again, not as loud as an adult bus but definitely not without its good natured OC members out to enjoy a great day on the slopes. Parental guidance is required.
THREE BUSES RUNNING TO SKI AREAIt must have snowed! Bus 1 is the “adult” bus, Bus 2 is the “Family” bus and Bus 3 is the “PARTY” bus. Ok we have reviewed an adult bus & a family bus but now we have a PARTY bus. The bus committee does not recommend that children ride the PARTY bus. Enough said! Anyone who has been in the Club knows what a PARTY bus is so if you get on this bus you know what to expect. Enough said!
FAMILY BUSESAs noted in the Bus schedule “Family Day” and always if a 2nd Bus is running on a Sunday. Again parental guidance is required.
HAPPY HOUR BUSES (Saturdays as noted on Bus schedule)These are PARTY buses that stay at the ski area past 5:00 to après ski party. Typically this bus will leave between 7:00 and 7:30 pm from the ski area. There is also an addition Happy Hour fee collected on the bus for any food & drink specials.
Sylvia & Fred Haefeli – OC Bus Committee
As a member of the OC Ski Club, you are also a member of the New York Capital District Ski Council (NYCDSC). The New York Capital District Ski Council is an association of ski clubs in the general Capital Region.

Presently the council consists of eleven ski clubs with over 3,000 members. Our member clubs ski here in the Northeast, all over North America and Europe. The council has special promotional days set up with a large group of ski areas to help promote skiing.
Please check out the calendar for events and days at www.nycdsc.org. Benefits of your NYCDSC membership include: * Races open to all clubs. * Council days with discounted lift tickets (just show your club membership card). * Council trips open to all club members – March 8-15, 2014 to Red Mountain, BC. Cost: $1485-$1535. * Bomber’s Ski Clinic - December 13-15, 2013 at Stowe. * Family Fun Days. * Biking, hiking, camping, golfing, rollerblading and many other activities.
See www.nycdsc.org for more information.

On Sunday, December 15, we will be running a bus trip to Okemo. In addition to providing free lessons for all levels of skiers and snowboarders, there is a special package available for all “Never Ever” skiers and snowboarders. The package includes equipment rental, group lesson by the Okemo Mountain Snowsports School, and a lower mountain lift ticket, for just $39.To participate in this program, you must purchase the package in advance. Please call 802-228-1600 to reserve your spot. The OC bus ride is not part of the package purchased from Okemo; you can reserve and prepay for the bus at a meeting or on the website. Additional coaching for the beginners will be available from our instructors following the lesson with the Okemo instructors. If you have any questions, stop by the Snowsports School table at any meeting.
SKI & SNOWBOARD TUNING CLINIC---Back again by popular demand, there will be a tuning clinic on Thursday January 9th at the PCC—7:00 PM Sharp. Learn everything from simple de-burring to beveling edges and hot waxing. You will learn how to determine when the skis need attention and how to do it yourself, if you wish.

The cold has started to set in and with areas such as Maple Ski Ridge opening up earlier than they traditionally do, it is a sure sign that Winter is here or at least the ski season is. December Family ski days currently scheduled are Friday 27th, Gore, $48 Drive up / $38 Bus Group, and Sunday 29th Bromley, $46 and New Years Day Wednesday, January 1st Stratton, $38. Additionally (as always), every Sunday that the club runs two buses to a mountain there is the option for one to be a family bus. Maple Ski Ridge has again for the 2013-14 ski season offered us a generous deal for Wednesday & Friday Nights 3-9 PM of ½ price lift tickets $13.00 credit & $12.00 cash. Our annual Smugglers Notch trip has many openings currently available and I encourage all OC members to consider this trip. This is not just a Family trip but an OC trip with great value, great accommodations and great skiing. Once again this year the trip has an additional bonus as it is during the Martin Luther King holiday weekend without a premium price. The dates are Friday January 17th through Monday the 20th and will offer two and three night stay options per condo.
The OC Family schedule continues to fill-up for this season with Race Dates and multiple Capital District Council ski dates that are set for families. We always need Family members for volunteers as bus coordinators & event assistants. So if you are able to help out, please contact me. You can also receive Family updates by contacting me at mattw63@verizon.net so get up to date by sending me an email.
