OUTSIDE THE WALLED CITY

On the left is the city of David which is outside the Old City walls

The Montefiore Windmill was built by a British philanthropist in the 1860s to provide cheap flour to poor Jews

Top left clockwise: the Temple Mount, Herod’s theatre, Herod’s palace with the 3 towers (from right to left: Phasael, Hippicus, & Mariamne), & the Adiabenian Royal Palaces of Queen Helena

The Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum houses the Dead Sea Scrolls & rare ancient manuscripts; the white dome symbolizes the lids of the jars in which the scrolls were found

Found in the grounds of the museum (top right clockwise): a 3rd-century sarcophagus, a 2nd-cnetury marble pedestal, & segments of a water pipe built by Roman military units that carried water from Solomon’s Pools to Jerusalem

This menorah was presented to the Knesset as a gift from the British Labour Party on 15th April 1956 in honour of the celebrations of the 8th Independence Day of the State of Israel

After days of looking at rocks & stones, this was quite a lively & colourful treat
