LAST WEEK’S SERMON HIGHLIGHTS
Overflowing Hope - Pastor Anison Samuel
Romans 15:12-13
Our contemporary usage of the word “hope” has a generally negative connotation. When we say, “I hope so”, we oftentimes associate it with an understanding that it may not happen .
In the New Testament, hope is an absolute certainty. It means that when you are expecting something, you are absolutely certain that you will be able to receive it. This is what Biblical hope is all about.
Hope, in the Bible, is not based on something. It is based on Someone. Our hope in Christ will never cause us disappointment. This hope is consistent and will never fail, just like Christ is unfailing and will never change.
God’s hope does not bring peace and joy one at a time – it brings all joy and peace, both to-gether! Philippians 4:4: “Rejoice in the Lord always!” God is not just going to fill you with peace, but with all joy. God will fill you with peace and joy because He is a God of hope!
There is no effort on our end to receive hope. God is the One who fills us. He fills your heart and then it begins to overflow. This is a hope that you do not have to struggle for or worry about. And the only thing God wants you to do is to keep believing in Him. As long as you believe, hope will keep flowing into you and you will overflow with hope.
All who make idols are nothing, and the things they treasure are worthless. Isaiah 44:9
“Remember these things, Jacob, for you, Israel, are my servant. I have made you, you are my servant; Israel, I will not forget you. Isaiah 44:21
Idols are formed by us, but God has formed us. Before we came into existence, God was there. Before we existed and before our problems came, He was the one who formed us. We need to worship God as our Creator, the One who was there before it all began. Our purpose in living is God. Without God, there is no purpose. He is our God and Creator and He de-serves all praise!
Isaiah 44:24-26 God does not need anything more. We are people who cannot run away from causality. If we did not wake up this morning, we would not be here. Even an apple that we buy has a cause. In the case of God, He is not only the first cause, but He is also the only cause. God does not need help from anyone – He is already complete and can do every-thing on His own. This God is filling us with joy and peace and supernatural hope. God can turn the impossible into the possible. He can confound wise men and make their logic fool-ish. One of the biggest differences between an idol and God is that God can confirm His Word. Our God is not only faithful, He is also able!
Luke 1:17-18, Romans 4:20-21 These verses compare Zechariah’s faith to Abraham’s faith. One compares a man who says “I” and “my” while the other was faithful and gave glory to God. Zechariah put everything in himself made the promise look silly. He questioned God. On the contrary, Abraham believed that God was able!
