Texas Education Agency Data Changes

PEIMS Edit + on the Way Out…

Texas Student Data System (TSDS/PEIMS) on the Way In

www.texasstudentdatasystem.org

TSDS/PEIMS Stage 1 Launches Aug 2015

TEA is rolling out TSDS PEIMS to half of the LEAs in Texas.

These LEAs will submit their official PEIMS collections via TSDS, although they can also load to EDIT+ during the 2015-16 school year for data quality assurance. They will not, however, complete their data via EDIT+, as TSDS PEIMS is now their system of record.

What is TSDS Unique ID?

TSDS Unique ID (10 digits) will enable education agencies to create

randomly generated unique identifiers to support all the

subsystems of TSDS and to provide cleaner longitudinal education data.

TSDS (1)

TSDS will become the one common data collection platform

for TEA to reduce the data collection burden on districts and

charter schools.

TSDS (2)

• TSDS replaces and expands on the existing Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS)

• TSDS modernizes to reduce technology risk and system downtime

• It puts real-time student performance data in the hands of educators

TSDS (3)

TSDS Unique ID is necessary in order to integrate the various subsystems of TSDS smoothly and accurately--it is better able to reduce duplicates and other errors than TEA's previous identification management system.

TSDS (4)

Since TEA will run both TSDS and the legacy EDIT+ systems in parallel for some time, EDIT+ has been adapted to accept Unique ID identifiers (UIDs), and LEAs must use UIDs for both systems.

School Year 2016-17 All LEAS will be in TSDS PEIMS System…

• NOTE: Migration to the new TSDS system is permanent. Once all LEAs have migrated, the legacy EDIT+ system will be decommissioned and no longer available.
