OpenStreetMap France initiated the BANO project aiming to create an Open National Address Database. Etalab, the french government agency behind data.gouv.fr the official opendata government's portal is now endorsing this project to move to BANO^2... the additional "O" standing for "Official". We will explain what is BANO as well as why and how it is moving to BANO^2

Address data : why ?

Geocoding : bring non geospatial datasets into the geospatial world….

OWF 2014 6

Available data in France

A few opendata sets in major cities Lyon, Toulouse, Montpellier, Rennes, Strasbourg, Mulhouse…

→ Around 7.5 % of France coverage

OpenStreetMap addresses Less than 10 % of France coverage

→ No global national open dataset available

OWF 2014 7

Potential data

Land registry data (cadastre / DGFiP) Not directly available as « address data »

In 2009, DGFiP allowed to use cadastre to improve OSM Used so far to extract buildings automatically

→ why not extract address data the same way !

OWF 2014 8

Automatic extraction test...
