An example of how AROPE is practised.

EXAMINER: Look at the picture. Would you like to go for this buffet? (pupil refers to a picture of a selection of dishes in a buffet spread.)

Answer : Yes, I would like to go for this buffet becauseReason : it is a good way to taste different types of dishes at one

sitting.Opinion : In my opinion, going for lunch or dinner buffet is a good

way to be introduced to dishes that I am not familiar with. In addition, we can avoid food wastage when we go for buffet meals. We would only take the food that we would eat.

Personal Experience : I remember having a delicious buffet lunch at a wedding reception. I could choose the dishes that I would like to eat from the many varieties that were available. I tried out some dishes that I was not familiar with. I was surprised that I actually liked some of them. I would not have known how the food tasted if I had not tried them that day.

Writing• Modular Writing - pupils are taught to use different ways of introducing their

stories (eg. with quotations, flashbacks, using similes and phrasal words)

Visible Thinking Routine- Group work, sharing ideas, think-pair-share
