PADDDtracker.org, built on ArcGIS for Server, ArcSDE and Drupal, uses crowd sourcing techniques to monitor protected area downgrading, downsizing, and degazettement (PADDD), the legal process through which national parks and nature reserves become weaker, smaller, or are removed completely. This demo will cover the technicalities involved in creating the site including the use of FME for data processing, set up of map service security and lessons learned.

The Facts About Protected Areas

• 130,000 across the world• Over 13% of the world’s surface• Cover 4% of the world’s water• One of the largest land uses on the planet. • Often times the only hope to stopping many

threatened or endangered species from becoming extinct

• We assume their protected status will remain intact into perpetuity

Front Loading the Data

Step 1. FME transforms Excel to FGDB TableStep 2. ArcMap - join table to geometry (points and polygons)Step 3. Migrate point and polygon featureclasses to ArcSDE

Map Service Set Up and Security

Step 1. Publish service with Feature AccessStep 2. Under Server Manager Security, set up Users and RolesStep 3. Edit service permissions and apply security to feature service
