Volvo Reveals 2019–20 RoadInstitute Course Schedule

Registration is open for the Volvo 2019-2020 Road Institute, an operator and techni-cian training program that is now in its 54thseason. Courses run November 2019through May 2020 and offer a mix of class-room and hands-on training on a variety ofoperations and maintenance topics.

“Students leave these sessions withimproved technical and problem-solvingskills,” said Wayne Tomlinson, RoadInstitute compaction training specialist. “Welove hearing from attendees who haveadvanced their careers because of this oper-ator and technician training, as well as fromemployers who enjoy benefits such asimproved machine uptime.”

The Road Institute again includes multi-ple dates to satisfy demand for the popularhands-on paving best practices course,“Paver and Compactor Operation &Maintenance.”

Volvo also continues to offer hydraulicand electrical systems courses specific to theVolvo P4410/P4410B and theP7000/P7000B series pavers, as well as soiland asphalt compactor product lines.

Sessions last two to five days each and areheld at the Road Institute Training Centers inShippensburg and Chambersburg, Pa., and atthe Road Institute West location in Phoenix,Ariz.

Course instructors share decades of fieldand teaching experience with attendees,including training on the latest DOT require-ments. The paver and compactor operator

courses also qualify toward NAPA DiamondPaving commendation requirements. Thepaver and compactor class with a Spanish-language focus will be Feb. 11-14 inPhoenix.

Road Institute course descriptions:• Paver and Compactor Operation &

Maintenance — Two days of classroom-style learning plus two days of hands-onapplication in best practices, including anoverview of Compact Assist with DensityDirect.

• Paving and Compaction ApplicationSeminar — Two days of classroom instruc-tion dedicated to paving and compactionbest practices.

• Paver Hydraulic and Electrical Systems— Four to five days of training on thehydraulic and electrical systems of paverswith lessons that allow for hands-on trou-bleshooting.

• Large Asphalt Compactor Mechanics —Three days of maintenance and technicaltraining for large asphalt compactors, includ-ing system functions, troubleshooting andadjustments of hydraulic and electrical sys-tems.

• Small Asphalt Compactor Mechanics —Three days of mechanical training forasphalt compactors under 7 tons.

• Soil Compactor Mechanics — Threedays of general service instruction for soilcompactors.
