Text slow fades on and off screen on static image of scenery, good composition – introducing you to environment. Opening shot (establishing shot) to music video
Text in plain, clear font, spacing between each letter creates interest.
Lines shows the rule of thirds or grid process on how levels draw the eye to certain points // used to show contrast
We would like to use a shot like this, but of an urban environment instead
More static shots or slow pans of environment, verticals create natural grid, composition is thought through, neutral colour palette. Wide shot of surrounding.
tree on the ground used as line of horizon
Falls on centre line of the shot
Mid shot to close up of actor
Actor blurred and out of focus – ideas we have previously explored
Top of head is cut off, movement in shot may cause this rather than convention of genre
Rule of thirds – leaves majority of shot empty ‘looking space’
Wide shot focusing on reflection in the water
Yet again rule of thirds use to separate the shot
While experimenting we filmed a similar shot experimenting with the shadows and lighting, which is something we want to include in our final
music video
Panning shot tracking girl running through the woods – pull focus as she runs
Running in front and behind trees – similar to our idea of running through pillars (Gravity – Odd Beholders)
Mirrored shot throughout
Wide shot of woods, camera is still people are moving
Natural grid, rule of thirdsLine of sight goes diagonally from each actor
Slight fish eye as sides curve – something we may experiment with?
Head space – convention of the
genre
Empty space mirrored, rule of thirds
Mid shot/Close up of portrait, sequenced together repeatedly
Strong focal point, strong presence
Again, head space - conventional
Empty looking space, strong focal point
Wide shot, performers are centralFinal scene, low lighting dulls colours – strong contrast
Final Thoughts• They use the rule of thirds a lot when looking at
composition of shots.• Keep shots clean and simple – often a lot of looking
space with small focal points.• Pull focus from characters to environment• Shots are slowed down slightly to create dream-like
affect, works well when matched with pull focuses and thirds.
