alo Alto Hills, like every club on the West Coast, is faced with having to dramatically reduce water use in light of the ongoing
drought. The current mandatory reduction rate on the course is a 34% cut back. Considering the water shortage, Andrew Morgan our course superintendent has done a magnificent job keeping the course in great shape. This fall, we will have some town hall meetings regarding the proposed course renovation. We would love your feedback. Palo Alto Hills has all the ingredients to be a great course so your input is very important. On July 23rd, Palo Alto Hills inducted four outstanding golfers into our Junior Hall of Fame. It was such a memorable night with touching speeches from Lauren Kim, Michelle Xie, Jonathon Garrick and Patrick Grimes. Congratulations to all four of you, the pride of Palo Alto Hills. I would like to thank Maxine Warren and Kirsten Michelson on running a fantastic women’s invitational. It was truly a great event. The men’s Tall Trees Invitational is coming up in the middle of September. This, as always, is a great tournament so if you have not already signed up, please do. Drew Crousore and his committee have put a lot of time in to making this a showcase tournament. We have just added Pymble Golf Club in Sydney Australia as another reciprocal club. If you are ever in that neck of the woods, you should play it. There are some interesting comments from a couple of our Members who played some of our reciprocal clubs in this newsletter; it makes good reading.
Finally, after getting feedback from the Survey, we, the Board, are digesting the results and will start to act on it.
Cheers, Eoin O’NeillPAH President

PRESIDENTA MESSAGE FROM THE
GM REVIEWP
Junior Hall of Fame inductees Patrick Grimes, Michelle Xie, Jonathan Garrick and Lauren Kim
See you at the Club,Dirk Zander, CCM
Halloween is upon us yet again and we have some big, ghoulish plans for everyone!
For those who have been here a few years, you know that come Halloween, the staff goes all out decorating, dressing up and planning the children’s Halloween party. As we are always looking for ways to step it up and reinvent, we are trying a few new ideas.
Some fun for adults! Friday night, October 23, is a 21 and over adult Halloween party and scary night golf. The party starts at 8pm with hors d’ oeuvres and a great live band playing rock and roll classics. I’m sure we will have some spooky drinks and perhaps a few blood curdling shots too. We will also have games and a costume contest judged by the crowd. Scary Night Golf will be a separate sign up so be sure to participate in this as well. It is great fun; just be ready to jump and scream.
The children’s Halloween party is being flipped upside down this year with big changes, big fun and a whole new experience. Members reported liking the interactive elements added over the last 2 years. We are fully embracing that idea and have completely transformed the event with a new name and all. Please join us for the 1st Annual Halloween Family Fair. There will be food stations, carnival style games, plenty of interactive fun and more. Please be aware there will be no seating or assigned tables so we can accommodate more people. Reservations are for attendance numbers only.
As a reminder the annual Share Holders Meeting is on Thursday, September 24. The reception starts at 6:00pm with the Annual Meeting and election of officers beginning at 7:00pm sharp.
“There being no place like this place, near this place, then this place must be the place!”

RECIPROCAL CLUB TESTIMONIALS
Peter Campagna on Castle Golf Club inDublin, Ireland:
I once read that if you want to beat someone at golf, pick them up from the airport and take them directly out to the course. But I have also read the best way to get over jet lag is getting sun and exercise once you land.
Well I got to test both theories on a recent trip to Ireland thanks to our reciprocal arrangement with the Castle Golf and Country Club in Dublin. I was joined by Paul Holohan from our office in Dublin, John, the club captain and our own Eoin O’Neill who was there visiting family. The course is very convenient to downtown Dublin, but when you are on the course all you can see are trees and hills in the distance and all you could hear were the birds. It is a beautiful layout, with great clubhouse facilities as well.
The course is well maintained with no drought in Ireland. And it is not a links course, like so many in Europe, but rather what they call a parkland course. So if you are used to hitting from the trees at Palo Alto Hills (as I am), then you will feel right at home on the tree lined fairways. Castle’s fairways are actually a little wider than ours. For example there was plenty of room for us to give the fox on hole number 11 a wide berth. He had settled down for a rest, and though he watched us intently, it was definitely his home course and we were just visitors.
Walking 18 was a great way to get over jet lag. And I was glad that we did not bet big, because John made four birdies on the front nine. So both theories were proven out by my experiences at Castle.
If your plans take you to Ireland, do not miss the opportunity to stop in at Castle.
Hong Seh Lim on Wack Wack Golf and Country Club in Mandaluyong, Phillipines:
Wack Wack is a traditional parkland golf course. Golf holes are very scenic and lined with mature trees. A few holes have water hazards that challenge even the best players. The greens are small and undulating. A golf course that tests the skills of all players.

ake sure your ball position is slightly back of middle, and make sure you transfer your weight through impact to ensure solid
contact. If you are hitting behind the ball, always check to see if your weight is on your forward foot at impact. Here is how you do it:
1. Use an impact bag. Or on the range, use our ball caddys to stop your swing at impact. Line up to the den caddy like you would address a ball to hit. Take your backswing. On the downswing in SLOW MOTION, hit the impact bag and stop to see where your weight is at impact. It should ALWAYS be on your front foot. This will help you feel impact. Now practice a few times, then hit your shot.
2. Next, hit about 20 balls working on visualizing your position at impact as you follow through. Try it, you will like it and it will increase your chances to catch the ball clean off the turf.
See you on the course!Mark SivaraHead Golf Professional

It’s therapeutic and unwinding, offering much needed release within connective tissue and postural muscles. No yoga experience required – all are welcome!
BARREYOGA FUSION SERIESBarreYoga combines the intensity of an aerobic & cardio workout with the dynamic flow of a vinyasa yoga class. Students use straps, blocks, balls, handheld weights, yoga mats & their own body’s resistance to strengthen their muscles and core. Paired with yoga poses, this upbeat class incorporates small isolating muscle movements on and off the barre, and deep stretches to lengthen the body.
