Important Notes

❖While all work is enrichment, we encourage students to engage daily. This engagement will help them be prepared when they return to school in the fall. Student participation will be monitored and captured. This will be done through student logins to the online portal, telephone interactions or communication with parents who verify student engagement.

❖All resources and current information can be found on the district’s website at www.detroitk12.org/covid19.

6

Attendance Policy

Attendance is taken twice a week in PowerSchoolTuesday: (Saturday to Tuesday) and Friday: (Wednesday to Friday)

How are you counted?

1. Attend a virtual lesson with teacher

2. Attend a phone conference with a staff member

3. Participate with a homework packet

Participation is confirmed if the parent notifies the teacher that they are attempting to participate but have

circumstances that are hindering their participation such as: family emergencies, illness, lack of resources

(electricity, water, internet, transportation, child care, homelessness, or other situations that would also impact

student learning in face-to-face education). These situations require principals and other campus staff to contact

parents and provide support.

“Although attendance is not mandatory, your child’s education is.”

Cornelius Pearson

Grading Policy

• Students will receive a Pass Grade (P) if they earned a 60% or higher in course work as March 12, 2020.

• Students will receive a Fail Grade (F) if they earned below 60% in course work as of March 12, 2020.

• All students failing their classes will have the opportunity to pass during the Distance Learning Program.

• The March 12th grade will be given as the Semester grade and Quarter3/Quarter 4 grade.

• All assignments are for enrichment and recovery and not for penalization.

Microsoft Teams

Teams for Education is the platform our teachers use to stay connected with students while in and out of the classroom. District teachers have Teams automatically rostered for each of their courses, and students are automatically enrolled in Teams for each of their courses. Teachers can conduct check-ins (via chat and video) with students and families, provide one-on-one or small group assistance for those who need more support, conduct whole-class discussions or lessons, and assign and provide feedback on submitted assignments. If your child does not have access to a smartphone, tablet or computer, ask your child's teacher for the local 313 telephone number needed to join their regularly scheduled class support sessions.

Please visit detroitk12.org/teams for more information and instructional videos

Student Work PacketsStudent work packets are available at Carstens Academy on April 22-24 from 9am to 1pm and our other 17 sites on-going.

Family Check-ins

• It is our goal that every student is engaged every day, just as they would be if they are in school. They may be attending sessions online or on the phone with their teachers, but an additional staff member will also make contact once or twice a week. This is to ensure are parents have their questions answered, feel supported and are not in need of additional resources the school can provide.

• The calls will generally come from a 313 or 248 phone number. The staff member will always identify who they are and their role at the school.

15
