REPORT OF EXHIBITION ON MISCONCEPTION ABOUT MENTAL ILLNESS
Introduction of the Exhibition / Activity : The Exhibition was done at karelibaug
hospital for mental health. The aim of the exhibition was on misconception about mental
illnesss. The exhibition was organised at OPD premises of Hospital for mental health from
10.00am to 12.00 pm. The programme was carried on by giving a brief introduction regarding
misconception about mental illness
Objectives:
General objectives for participants:
At the end of the exhibition the participants will be able to gain knowledge on Misconception
about mental illness and they will implement in their day to day life.
Specific objectives for participants:
At the end of the exhibition,participants will be able to:
1. To expose and destroys the myths surrounding mental illness.
2. To reduce stigma related to mental illness.
3. To promote help seeking behaviours.
4. To improve health and quality of life for people who affected by mental illness.
5. To raise awareness about the mental health continuum.
General objectives for students: At the end of the exhibition students will be able to gain
knowledge and experience in conducting exhibition along with theoretical knowledge on
Misconception about mental illness.
Specific objectives for students:
At the end of the exhibition students will be able to
1. To develop the skill in making AV aids
2. To gain experience in conducting exhibition
3. To gain a comprehensive knowledge on Misconception about mental illness.
4. To develop principles of teaching and learning
Brief Information on Proceeding :
Programme was started by 10:30 am. through welcome speech by Mr.Rajratna Thomas
1st year Msc nursing. He welcomed the audience, Medical superintendent, nursing
superintendent, nursing staff, faculties and students were participated. Objectives was
explained by Ms. Bhargavi Patel. She explained how to indentified myths, beliefs and
perception about mental disorders and health-seeking behaviour in general population and
medical professionals and how we will handle the situation if person has any kind of mental
illness
Ms Arpita Patel explicate importance of the exhibition of misconception about mental
illness. She told that through this exhibition people can understand mental disorder can be
cured like normal disease and also mentally ill person needs right treatment and family
support.
Group of 2nd year PB.Bsc nursing students presented educational posters on the theme
and people were so curiously seeing that posters and understanding the meaning behind the
theme by that posters.
Vote of thanks was given by Ms. Arpita Patel 1st year Msc Nursing. She gave thanks to
Medical superintendent and R.M.O and In charge sister that they gave us that opportunity that
we can spread awareness regarding misconception about mental illness and the purpose of
that program was successfully done.
Conclusion:
The exhibition was very effective and informative for the students. The participants
was covered all the important points about misconception about mental illness in this
exhibition. The patients and OPD visitors were appreciated the participants and institute for
conducting such creative exhibition. The moderator gave vote of thanks to the audience and
medical superintendent , nursing superintendent, staff nurses who gave their precious time
and joined the exhibition and giving opportunity to conduct the exhibition which was very
useful for the patients OPD visitors and students.
