Parts of a Comic Book Page

• Panel – One illustration in a square or rectangular frame. Sometimes in a circular or irregularly-shaped panel.

• Gutter - The space on a comic book page that is outside the panels.

• Speech Balloons – Contain what a character is saying. Usually round.

• Thought Balloons - Contain what a character is thinking. Usually has lumpy edges, like clouds.

• Pointers – Indicate which character is speaking.

• Bubbles – Indicate which character is thinking.

• Title - Name of the comic or story.

• Credits – Names of the writers and artists of the comic.

• Captions – Words that are not in speech or thought balloons. Usually in a square or rectangle.

• Sound Effects - Words that depict noises or sounds.
