• El Pasado Simple es una acción que comenzó y terminó en el pasado. (No existe más)

PAST SIMPLE

• El Pasado Simple ocupa verbos en pasado que son regulares o irregulares.

• Los verbos regulares en el pasado siempre se escriben con una -ed final

e.g. I played with dolls. (Jugaba con muñecas)

PAST SIMPLE• Los verbos irregulares, por otro lado son

totalmente diferentes.e.g. Conny drank some water. DRINK-DRANK

(Conny bebió algo de agua) /drink - /drank/ e.g. JP read a book. READ-READ

(JP leyó un libro) /ri:d/ - /red/

e.g. Caroline set the table. SET-SET

(Caroline puso la mesa) /set/ - /set/

PAST SIMPLE• La oración afirmativa se forma de la siguiente

forma:

PERSON + PAST VERB + COMPLEMENT

The students ate their lunch at 14:30.Los alumnos comieron sus almuerzos a las 14:30.

- ATE es el pasado del verbo EAT= COMER.- Se usa el verbo de la segunda columna.

PAST SIMPLE

• La oración negativa se forma de la siguiente forma:

PERSON + DIDN'T + INFINITIVE VERB + COMPLEMENT

The students didn't eat their lunch at 14:30.Los alumnos no comieron sus almuerzos a las 14:30.

- DID es el auxiliar del pasado simple. En una oración negativa se traduce como NO.

- Se usa el verbo de la primera columna.

puede ser respondida con Sí o No...

DID + PERSON + INFINITIVE VERB + COMPLEMENT + ?

Did the students eat their lunch at 14:30?¿Comieron los alumnos sus almuerzos a las 14:30?

- En esta pregunta el DID (auxiliar del pasado simple) no se traduce.- Las preguntas que comienzan con un auxiliar siempre se responde

con Yes o No.• e.g. Did you like chocolate? Yes, I did. / No, I didn't. Did she drink milk? Yes, she did. / No, she didn't.

PAST CONTINUOUSEl pasado continuo es una acción reiterativa que ocurrió en un momento del pasado.Esta formada por el pasado del verbo to be y un verbo –ing.

TO BE + VERBING (WAS / WERE)- Was / Were se traducen como fué o estuvo.- -ING se traduce como -ando o -endo.

PAST CONTINUOUSLa oración afirmativa del pasado continuo se forma de la siguiente manera:

PERSON + WAS / WERE + VERBING + COMPLEMENT

e.g. Mary was playing tennis. (Mary estaba jugando tennis)

- Los pronombres personales I – HE – SHE – IT usan WAS.- Los pronombres YOU – WE – THEY usan WERE.

Usamos When y While con oraciones con dos acciones en el pasado. When significa CUANDO y While MIENTRAS.

e.g. I was eating a cake when my mom arrived

La acción del pasado continuo siempre es interrumpida por el pasado simple.

Usamos When antes de una acción en pasado simple y While antes de una acción en pasado continuo.

e.g. While my dad was drinking water, mom entered the kitchen.(Mientras mi papá estaba bebiendo agua, mamá entró a lacocina. Al entrar mamá en la cocina, interrumpió a papá cuando bebía agua)
