“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one.
Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully
until she finds it?” (Luke 15:8)
I lost my class ring the other day. From the first moment I realized it was missing, there was no other thought on my mind other than finding that ring. I looked and looked and looked, but I could not find it. I went back and retraced all my steps, but could not find it. I even went back and looked in places I had already looked, just to make sure I had not missed it, but could not find it. Although I kept meeting failure, I was not going to give up until I found that ring.
That must have been the same way the woman who lost one of her coins felt. She lit a lamp, so she would have light, and proceeded to clean the house from top to bottom. I am sure she, like me, looked in every nook, cranny, and hiding place in that entire house un-til she found that coin.
The way the woman looked for her lost coin (and the way I looked for my ring) is a meta-phor for how God seeks out the lost. It is not a passive waiting, hoping that something will happen. Rather, it is an active going out and looking for what is lost. It is looking in the unexpected places, and the familiar places that we have looked at before.
And that is the way we are to be too. We are not to be just sitting back, waiting for peo-ple to show up and join us. We—like God, like the woman, like me looking for my ring—must go out and search for those who are lost. Look in the new places. Look in the old places. Look until the lost is found.

MISSION STATEMENT
God’s purpose for Grace Lu-theran Church is:
Welcome to Grace, Welcome the Message.
Principle Values:
Jesus is Lord Everyone is welcome.
All serve in different ways. Seek and share the
message. God’s love is life
changing.
Ladies of Grace Activities for August: Notes from Jan Underly We hope that you will join us in our meetings and Bible Study. There is a new Bi-ble Study written by a different person each month. There will be no Companion Bible, nor a leaders guide. It will all be found in ‘The Gather’. This magazine is found in most of our homes. It promises to be easier to understand. We will do health kits again. The kits go to agencies here in Cameron County. We did 83 kits last year, how about 100 this year!!!! If you are unable to shop, you can give us the monies and we will shop for you. We all go to lunch together Thursday after the business meeting. If you don’t drive we will gladly give you a ride. The lunch schedule for the rest of the year is: August 13th— Applebees September 10th— Olive Garden October 8th— Lonnie’s November 12th— Big John’s December 12th— Is the Christmas Party Our big fund raiser is the rummage sale which will be held December 5th. We use those funds for giving to needy individuals. We are accepting used or new items. We need workers to help the week of November 20th until December 4th. We will need men to help set up, particularly on Saturday and also to help thru the week.
