Y e t t h o s e promoted h i g h w i t h i n t h a t Work o r s p e c i a l a c t i v i t y f o r God, have been allowed t o t u r n f a l s e , a g a i n s t God ' s chosen l e a d e r .

S t a r t w i t h Moses - - spec ia l ly c a l l e d and chosen by God t o l e a d t h e I s rae l - i t e s l a v e s o u t of Egypt and t o t h e promised l a n d . Moses w a s human. H e had human f a u l t s and weaknesses--but he a l s o had human s t r e n g t h s , and God gave him t h e e x t r a s t r e n g t h needed .

Moses' b r o t h e r , Aaron , had been e l e v a t e d h i g h as Moses' spokesman ( s i n c e Moses had a speech impediment--he s t u t t e r e d ) . Aaron , w i t h h i s s i s te r

M i r i a m , d i d once t u r n f a l s e a n d s a y t o Moses, i n e f f e c t : "Who do you t h i n k you a r e ? W e are j u s t a s high--on a l e v e l w i t h you . " God p u n i s h e d .

Then t h e r e w a s Korah. H e and o t h e r s a s s o c i a t e d w i t h him i n a r e b e l l i o n had been r a i s e d to h i g h p o s i t i o n i n t h e n a t i o n Israel--a n a t i o n e m i g r a t i n g from Egypt w i t h 2 % o r m o r e m i l l i , o n p e o p l e ( 6 0 0 , 0 0 0 men age 2 0 and a b o v e , p l u s women and c h i l d r e n ) .

There w a s r e a l o r g a n i z a t i o n w i t h i n t h a t nomadic n a t i o n , b u t none e q u a l t o Moses i n t o p a u t h o r i t y under God--and no "number t w o " man, i n a u t h o r i t y o v e r a l l e x c e p t Moses.

Y e t Korah and h i s f e l l o w - d i s s i d e n t s w e r e n o t s a t i s f i e d w i t h t h e i r a1read;l l o f t y p o s i t i o n s - - t h e y wanted t o "GET"--take t o t h e m s e l v e s MORE AUTHORITY, EQUAL TO MOSES. God c a u s e d t h e e a r t h t o s w a l l o w them up.

Bu t t h e man God had p r e p a r e d i n advance , t h e man God c h o s e as H i s i n - s t r u m e n t i n STARTING t h e t remendous p r o j e c t o f moving some 2% m i l l i o n p e o p l e t o t h e promised land--was n e v e r a l l o w e d by God t o 90 wrong.

Y e t Moses w a s a b u s e d , a c c u s e d , c r i t i c i z e d .

The s a m e w i t h J o s h u a , t h e man God c h o s e t o t a k e o v e r a f t e r Moses' j o b was comple t ed , and p i l o t God ' s p e o p l e a c r o s s t h e J o r d a n r i v e r i n t o t h e promised l a n d . J o s h u a remained FAITHFUL!

My e l d e r s o n , R i c h a r d David, w a s t a k e n i n d e a t h - - d y i n g " i n h a r n e s s " on a b a p t i z i n g t o u r - - t h e m o s t l o v e d o f t h e m i n i s t e r s in G o d ' s c h u r c h , b e c a u s e he e x u d e d so much LOVE! B u t t h e n my s e c o n d s o n came a l o n g , " p r e p a r e d " i n a11 t h e e v i l s of e n l i s t e d men i n t h e U.S. Navy, a n d made number t w o man ( t h i s w a s MY m i s t a k e , n o t y e t t h e n r e a l i z i n g God has n e v e r u s e d a "number two" man i n authority). I d e l e g a t e d c o n s i d e r a b l e a u t h o r i t y t o Ted , b u t h e w e n t way beyond w h a t I d e l e g a t e d , a n d assumed TOTAL A U T H O R I T Y , t r y i n g t o c u t m e o f f comple t e ly - -wh ich meant a l so c u t t i n g off - a l l above him ( w h i c h mean t c u t t i n g o f f J e s u s C h r i s t and God A l m i g h t y ) . T h e r e w e r e a l s o o t h e r s t h a t w e r e e i t h e r POWER-hungry, o r money-hungry ( p r o b a b l y m o s t l y t h e f o r m e r ) .

W e a r e g e t t i n g f r i g h t e n i n g l y c lose t o t h e E N D o f t h i s age. T h i s c h u r c h w a s d r i f t i n g i n t o a L a o d i c e a n c o n d i t i o n . ( I n c i d e n t a l l y , b o t h t h e " S a r d i s " and t h e "Laod icean* ' eras of t h e c h u r c h w e r e GOD'S CHURCHES--NOT SATAN'S!) Someone spread t h e f a l s e r u m o r t h a t I have s a id these o t h e r s w e r e o r w i l l be S a t a n ' s c h u r c h e s . The S a r d i s e r a i n t h e main h a d become s p i r i t u a l l y dead--had rejected too much of G O D ' S TRUTH--was a c c o m p l i s h i n g v i r t u a l l y N O T H I N G i n s p r e a d i n g t h e t r u e G o s p e l t o t h e w o r l d ( indeed h a d no c lear c o n c e p t i o n o f w h a t t h a t Gospel i s ) . I n t h e ailtumn o f 1 9 2 6 , when my l i f e - c h a n g i n g c h a l l e n g e came, I w a s o n e af t h e " w i s e of t h i s w o r l d . " I h a d b e e n i n b u s i n e s s . From age 1 8 t o a g e 34 I had no i n t e r e s t i n r e l i g i o n . I t h i n k I was u p r i g h t a n d h o n e s t and s i n c e r e - - ; r e t v e r y much a p a r t o f t h i s w o r l d . I h a d n o t n e g l e c t e d e d u c a t i o n a n d d i d possess t h e e q u i v a l e n t o f p o s t g r a d u a t e d e g r e e s .

I n 1 9 7 2 , when Garne r Ted Armstrong w a s b a n i s h e d from t h e Church and C o l l e g e , and l i v i n g i n Colorado, a l l t o p - r a n k i n g m i n i s t e r s had t u r n e d a g a i n s t Ted--but S t a n l e y Rader s tood l o y a l l y w i t h m e a s T E D ' S ONLY F R I E N D , i n work- i n g t o b r i n g Ted back i n t o t h e Work.

But once b a c k , Ted s t a r t e d a campaign o f p e r s e c u t i o n and c h a r a c t e r a s s a s s i n a t i o n a g a i n s t M r . Rader such as I have n e v e r w i t n e s s e d , and have n e v e r found c h r o n i c l e d i n B i b l i c a l h i s t o r y .

W H Y , I a s k a g a i n , WHY do s o m e m i n i s t e r s and even some b r e t h r e n l a y -- members, t h i n k E V I L o f S t a n l e y Rader?

Could it b e b e c a u s e h e i s "wor ld ly -wise" and t h e r e f o r e a b l e t o g i v e t h e Work a h e l p none o f u s can g i v e ? Is i t b e c a u s e h e h a s n o t t r i e d t o "PUT O N " a r e l i g i o u s o r s a n c t i m o n i o u s p e r s o n a l i t y and a p p e a r a n c e , and a p p e a r s "more w o r l d l y " t h a n we--even though I know f o r a f a c t some w e l l r e c o g n i z e ? m e m b e r s o r m i n i s t e r s a r e , i n f a c t - - e s p e c i a l l y G a r n e r Ted--more " w o r l d l y " i n ATTITUDE and WAYS t h a n M r . Rader .

I do n o t want M r . Rader t o "PUT ON" a s a n c t i m o n i o u s o r r e l i g i o u s - t y p e b e a r i n g .

T o sum up b r i e f l y , when I l o o k a t t h e R E C O F U b - a t t h e F R U I T S - - I f i n d them m o s t l y GOOD--the GOOD f a r o u t w e i g h i n g t h e bad . T h i s Work could n o t have come t o t h e s t a t e o f s u c c e s s i n God's e y e s t h a t i t h a s o t h e r w i s e .

M r . Rader is n o t p e r f e c t - - n o r a m I - -nor are YOU! B u t maybe now, a l l of you who have G O D ' S HOLY S P I R I T w i l l have a l i t t l e m o r e K I N D L I N E S S i n y o u r a t t i t u d e toward t h e o n e my son would p a i n t as S a t a n i n c a r n a t e . T o them P a u l wrote: "But I fear l e s t by any means, as t h e s e r p e n t b e g u i l e d E v e t h r o u g h h i s s u b t i l t y , so your minds s h o u l d be c o r r u p t e d " ( I1 C o r . 11:3). Today, i f one s h o u l d s u g g e s t t h a t a b r o t h e r o r m i n i s t e r i n t h e Church h a s unsus- p e c t e d l y been l e d i n any d e g r e e by S a t a n , h e w i l l r i se up i n f u r i o u s i n d i g - n a t i o n and a n g r i l y r e to r t t h a t S a t a n c a n ' t i n f l u e n c e him! T h a t i s t o s a y , "I a m s t r o n g e r and m o r e f i r m and r i g h t e o u s t h a n Sa tan - -Sa tan n e v e r c o u l d d e c e i v e m e ! I'

D i r e c t l y i n f r o n t o f m e i s a huge score- b o a r d whereon w a s j u s t r e g i s t e r e d t h e f i n a l r e s u l t s i n t h e w o r l d ' s f i r s t i n t e r n a t i o n a l e l e c t i o n . On Thursday , J u n e 7 , and Sunday, J u n e 1 0 , a b o u t 6 0 p e r c e n t o f a n e l i g i b l e 180 m i l l i o n v o t e r s i n t h e n i n e European Community n a t i o n s cas t b a l l o t s f o r d i r e c t l y e l e c t e d r e p r e s e n t a t i v e s t o t h e expanded European P a r l i a m e n t , o n e o f t h r e e p r i n c i p a l b o d i e s which govern t h e a f f a i r s of t h e Community.

The new p a r l i a m e n t , expanded from 198 t o 4 1 0 d e l e g a t e s , w i l l n o t h o l d i t s f i r s t s e s s i o n u n t i l n e x t month, b u t a t l eas t i t s i d e o l o g i c a l makeup i s e v i d e n t from t h e v o t i n g outcome. The soc i a l i s t p a r t i e s w i l l c o n s t i t u t e t h e s i n g l e l a rges t b l o c , b u t t h e European P e o p l e s ' P a r t y , a n umbrella union of t h e c o n t i n e n t ' s C h r i s t i a n Democrats, w i l l wind up o n l y a h a n d f u l o f seats b e h i n d . They are e x p e c t e d t o be j o i n e d on m o s t i s s u e s by B r i t a i n ' s C o n s e r v a t i v e s , v o t e d i n by a l a n d s l i d e .

Exc i t emen t s u r r o u n d i n g t h e e l e c t i o n h e r e h a s been p r e t t y h i g h , b u t community o f f i c i a l s are d i s a p p o i n t e d w i t h t h e r e s u l t s f o r t w o basic r e a s o n s . F i r s t , t h e t u r n - o u t , d e s p i t e a r emarkab le 85% w a t e r s h e d i n I t a l y , w a s , i n t h e i r view, " d i s a p p o i n t i n g l y l o w " ( t h o u g h a 6 0 % t u r n - o u t i n t h e U n i t e d S t a t e s would be t e r r i f i c ! ) . Apathy combined w i t h s i n g i f i c a n t v o t e r a n t i p a t h y w a s t h e r u l e i n much o f B r i t a i n and Denmark. O f f i c i a l s i n W e s t Germany--the Common M a r k e t ' s m o s t e n t h u s i a s t i c suppor t e r - -had hoped f o r a t l e a s t a n 8 0 % t u r n - o u t b u t had t o s e t t l e f o r 1 5 % less.

The second and m o s t d e t r a c t i n g f a c t o r i n t h e E u r o - e l e c t i o n i s t h a t t h e o l d bug-a-boo of n a t i o n a l i s m r e f u s e d t o r e c e d e i n t o the background. I n f a c t , n a t i o n a l p e r s p e c t i v e s a n d n a t i o n a l p o l i t i c s dominated t h e v e r y c o n d u c t O f t h e e l e c t i o n i t s e l f , an e l e c t i o n i n which t h e p e o p l e of Europe w e r e t h e o r e t i c a l l y supposed t o ac t p o l i t i c a l l y f o r t h e f i r s t t i m e a s Europeans r a t h e r t h a n as Germans, Danes o r Frenchmen.

I n West Germany, f o r example , t h e v o t e w a s a n a l y z e d almost e n t i r e l y i n i t s n a t i o n a l c o n t e x t . When C h r i s t i a n D e m o c r a t i c c a n d i d a t e s p u l l e d 4 9 . 2 % of t h e p o p u l a r vo te , CDU leaders w e r e o v e r j o y e d a t t h e p r o s p e c t t h a t t h e y c o u l d emerge v i c t o r i o u s i n t h e 1 9 8 0 f e d e r a l e l e c t i o n s - - p e r h a p s even w i t h a c lear m a j o r i t y , n o t n e e d i n g - h e l p from t h e F r e e Democrats.

I n F r a n c e , t h e e l e c t i o n a p p e a r e d m o s t l y t o be a tes t of voter s t r e n g t h between P r e s i d e n t G i s c a r d ' s C e n t r i s t s , b a t t l i n g a g a i n s t t h e f r a c t u r e d l e f t of t h e S o c i a l i s t s a n d Communists and a g a i n s t t h e f a r - r i g h t i s t s l ed by J a c q u e s C h i r a c , who b l a n c h a t e v e r y e x p a n s i o n o f t h e EEC b u r e a u c r a c y i n B r u s s e l s . P r e s i d e n t G i s c a r d , o f c o u r s e , w a s n o t a c a n d i d a t e b u t h e won a p e r s o n a l v i c t o r y when h i s C e n t r i s t s l a t e emerged as t h e l a r g e s t b l o c .

A n t i - m a r k e t p o l i t i c i a n s c l a i m e d t h a t t h e m a s s a b s t e n t i o n w a s p roo f of B r i t i s h d i s s a t i s f a c t i o n w i t h c o n t r o v e r s i a l EEC p o l i c i e s such a s t h e o n e w i t h a g r i c u l t u r e . Worse y e t , many o f t h e Labor p a r t y d e l e g a t e s d i s p a t c h e d t o S t r a s b o u r g a re a n t i - m a r k e t e e r s them- s e l v e s a n d w i l l c o n s t i t u t e a n e a t l i t t l e b l o c of f o o t - d r a g g e r s i n t h e P a r l i amen t . The m o s t r i d i c u l o u s s i t u a t i o n o c c u r r e d i n Denmark. The Danes reacted t o t h e f i r s t European e l e c t i o n by g i v i n g t h e l a r g e s t b l o c of seats t o a p a r t y d e d i c a t e d t o oppos ing t h e European i d e a l . The s o - c a l l e d " P e o p l e s A n t i - EEC P a r t y " took f o u r of Denmark's a l l o t t e d 1 6 s ea t s , t h e r ema inde r b e i n g s p l i t be tween seven o t h e r p a r t i e s . Green land , whose 2 4 , 0 0 0 e l e c t o r a t e formed a s e p a r a t e c o n s t i t u e n c y t o t h e rest of Denmark, a l so e l e c t e d an a n t i - m a r k e t c a n d i d a t e .

Even i n I t a l y t h e h i g h t u r n o u t w a s d i s m i s s e d by m o s t a n a l y s t s a s m i s l e a d i n g . P a r t y d i s c i p l i n e i n I t a l y i s v e r y s t r i c t , v i r t u a l l y g u a r a n t e e i n g heavy p a r t i c i p a t i o n i n any e l e c t i o n .

Today ' s /Cfune 117 e d i t i o n of t h e D a i l y T e l e g r a p h c o n t a i n e d an a r t i c l e s t a t i n g T h a t t h e European e l e c t i o n s were bound t o r a d i c a l l y a l t e r t h e f u t u r e of t h e Common Market . Tha t i s h a r d t o see. The s a m e a r t i c l e ad- m i t t e d t h a t t h e newly c o n s t i t u t e d p a r l i a m e n t would have o n l y f r a c t i o n a l l y more power t h a n t h e o l d one . P o l i t i c a l c o n t r o l w i l l s t i l l l a r g e l y rest w i t h t h e E E C ' s C o u n c i l o f M i n i s t e r s , who r e p r e s e n t and d i r e c t l y r e p o r t t o t h e i r r e s p e c t i v e n a t i o n a l governments .

I t i s by no means c o i n c i d e n t a l t h a t a t t h e v e r y t i m e f r e e E u r o p e ' s s ecu la r l e a d e r s have nade t h e i r l a t e s t ( y e t u l t i m a t e l y f u t i l e ) a t t e m p t t o a c h i e v e p o l i t i c a l u n i t y , t h e head of t h e Roman C a t h o l i c Church s h o u l d be l e d t o r e v e a l h i s v i s i o n o f t h e Europe o f t h e f u t u r e . Pope John Paul 11, c o n c l u d i n g his p r e c e d e n t - s h a t t e r i n g n ine-day j o u r n e y b e h i n d t h e I r o n C u r t a i n , h a s s e r v e d n o t i c e i n no u n c e r t a i n t e r m s t h a t h e w i l l b e a s o u r c e of enormous i n f l u e n c e i n European p o l i t i c a l a f f a i r s from now on.

Vinocur r e p o r t e d t h a t t h e s i t u a t i o n as i t u n f o l d e d w a s so new, so unexpec ted , t h a t i t w a s a c t u a l l y d i f . f i c u l t t o g r a s p i n i t s e n t i r e t y . The pope showed how u n s e t t l i n g h i s approach c o u l d s e e m when he s a i d , ' I a m s u r e t h e r e a r e p e o p l e o u t t h e r e who are a l r e a d y h a v i n g a h a r d t i m e t a k i n g t h i s S l a v i c pope. But t h e P o l i s h a u t h o r i t i e s , h a v i n g a g r e e d t o t h e v i s i t i n t h e f i r s t p l ace - -a P o l i s h p a r t y o f f i c i a l t o l d Vinocur p r i v a t e l y t h a t t h e y wanted t o g e t a p a p a l v i s i t o u t o f t h e way e a r l y - - h a d l i t t l e c h o i c e b u t t o g r i n and b e a r i t . They h e a r d t h e pope s u g g e s t t h a t Communist societ ies w e r e f l awed and i n a d e q u a t e . " C h r i s t w i l l n e v e r a p p r o v e , " he s a i d i n t h e i n d u s - t r i a l c i t y o f N o w a Hu ta , " t h a t man must b e c o n s i d e r e d o r c o n s i d e r h i m s e l f mere ly as a means o f p r o d u c t i o n . . . . The combina t ion o f t h e m a s s t h r o n g s and t h e almost d a i l y c r i t i c i sms of Communist s o c i e t y b r o u g h t , s a id Vinocur , " p a i n f u l i l l u s t r a t i o n s t o P o l i s h and o t h e r European l e a d e r s o f t h e i r l a c k of c o n t a c t w i t h t h e p o p u l a t i o n . "
