This newsletter has been produced by the Keyworth Patient Participation Group which meets at regular intervals to decide on ways of making a positive contri-bution to the services and facilities offered to the patients by the practice. Virtual Patient Participation Group

The virtual PPG group has been set up to involve patients and

ask for their ideas on how things can be improved at Keyworth

Medical Practice.

As a member of the virtual PPG we will email you asking for your

opinion on a range of topics, we will send you the PPG newsletter

(3 newsletters a year) and we will ask you to

complete the annual questionnaire.

We currently have 140 members but would like

many more patients to join.

Patient Participation Group Awareness Week

Monday 27th – Friday 31st March

We shall be having a special week of Patient awareness and par-ticipation from Monday 27th to Friday 31st March, when a number of special displays will be prepared for patients. This year the displays will feature: Hand Hygiene, Antibiotic Re-sistance and Wasted Medicines.

Please come along to the surgery and complete our annual questionnaire.

Hand Hygiene

Keeping hands clean is one of the most important steps we

can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others.

Many diseases and conditions are spread by not washing

hands with soap and clean, running water .

Come and look at our information and test how clean your hands are using our light boxes.

Antibiotic Resistance

Antibiotic resistance is happening all over the world. Antibiotics are seen by many patients as the ‘cure’ for all illnesses. As patients we are demanding antibiotics for things that can’t be cured by them. This is using antibiotics inappropriately. The doctor may refuse to prescribe antibiotics for inappropriate use (coughs, colds & viruses). It has NOTHING to do with the doctor trying to save money!

Wasted Medicines

Do you have a repeat prescription?

It has been estimated over £300 million of NHS prescribed (but un-wanted) medicines are wasted each year.

If you have a repeat prescription :-

please tick only the items you need - to prevent waste.

Unused medications that you no longer require can be returned to the KMP pharmacy.

Missed Appointments

It is such a shame that during such a busy time of year when your GP Practice is trying to meet the demands of winter pres-sures patients are failing to attend appointments

Between Oct – Dec 2016 733 appointments were booked by patients who then did not attend.

If you have booked an appointment but you are unable to attend or no longer need it:

please call (0115 937 3527) and cancel it !

so the reception staff can offer it to a patient who may really need to be seen.

Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP)

The National Health Service (NHS) has asked all areas of the Country

to produce local five-year plans to look at how the quality, health

and well-being of local people can be improved.

The Draft Plan for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire (for the period

2016-2021) has recently been released and is available for public

comment and formal consultation. The full plan and an executive
