Amplifying the unheard

The challenge: the most remote and the most marginalised are the least likely to have the means to record and share their life experiences.

@OnOurRadar

From the margins to the front page

Those we work with are marginalised from mainstream society by

disability, ethnicity, poverty or remoteness. Others face stigma or

violence.

@OnOurRadar

We have a focus on offline and off grid communities.

How we do thisThrough our work, we have identified three main barriers which prevent the most vulnerable from

communicating:

Connectivity. Capacity. Confidence

@OnOurRadar

ConnectivityWe run a crowdfunded communications hub

which enables citizens to report and receive real time responses from editors via SMS, audio or

photo.

@OnOurRadar

CapacityWe design and deliver citizen reporter

training, covering the basics of journalism and eye witness coverage

via SMS, chat apps and voice.

@OnOurRadar

There is an emphasis on verification, neutrality, and information security.

ConfidenceWe back up learning with one-to-one

mentoring. We view and treat reporters as consultants; local experts on their

own issues and environment.

@OnOurRadar

Real issues, in real time.

The result of our work is a stream of powerful stories straight from the

source. They offer a depth of insight and intimacy which is traditionally

overlooked or deemed inaccessible.

@OnOurRadar

PartnershipsWe design and develop online

platforms to share content, or work in partnership with media outlets.
