Be a Perspective Detective! June 1-5
Perspective Taking = Considering the thoughts, feelings and needs of others, even if they are
different from our own.
Back in April, we practiced being empathetic and being a problem-solver. An important
skill you need to have to be empathetic and a good problem-solver is to be able to see an
issue from the other person’s point of view, or perspective.
Have you heard the expression “put yourself in someone else’s shoes”? That means to
look at the world from someone else’s perspective. When you put yourself in someone
else’s shoes that means trying to imagine what they may be thinking or feeling. When you
can see an issue from different perspectives, it is easier to understand someone else’s feel-
ings and to develop good solutions to problems that feel fair to everyone.
A perspective detective is someone who tries to see the world from someone else’s point
of view.
Challenge: Complete the counseling pages in your packet this week. Practice being a per-
spective detective and consider how someone else might think or feel in different situations.
Go to Isom’s Counselor tab at https://ie.lynden.wednet.edu/for_students/counseling to
watch this week’s video.
Mrs. Grant :)
Carefully look at both cartoons and talk with someone about each person’s different perspective. Is one person right? Is one person wrong? Discuss.

¡Se un Detective de Perspectiva! Junio 1-5

Conversa.

Read what is written below in the gray box. Imagine what the other person might be thinking and feeling. Write their thoughts and feelings in the thought bubble. I did the first one to get you started. If you get confused, check out this week’s counselor video and I will help you!

I want to share my idea.
This is
frustrating!
You interrupt your
partner when he is
trying to talk.
You laugh at
someone when they
trip.
You tell someone that
you like their new
shoes.

You yell in someone’s
ear at recess.
You make a silly face
when someone got
an answer wrong.
You talk in line, so the
whole class has to sit
back down.
You invite someone
new to sit with you at
lunch.
