ASIA Plagued by a catastrophic pandemic, India’s vulnerable Muslim communities
received the charity’s largest iftar programme in Asia. Thousands of families all over
the country received iftar packs or financial assistance during the blessed month.
In the northern state of Assam, over two thousand, half of whom were poor
Madrasa students were given cash grants to help them meet their needs.
Cash assistance was also delivered to thousands of orphaned and widowed families
in Gujarat, West Bengal, Jammu Kashmir and in New Delhi.
Over 900 Iftar packs were also delivered to hundreds of families in Dehat, Mewat
and Delhi.
In the low lying, cyclone prone lands of Bangladesh, 400 families (covering 1,300
children) were given Iftar to satisfy their hunger during Ramadhan.
On the other side of India, in Pakistan, a huge Iftar programme was delivered,
alhamdulillah. Over 34,000 families across KPK, Punjab and Sindh were each given
large Iftar packs for the blessed month.
Finally, in Sri Lanka, 1,500 poor families in the island’s north and eastern areas were
given cash grants with which to buy their food essentials for Ramadhan.
MIDDLE EAST The blessed lands of Syria received one of the largest Iftar programmes where over
7,800 families received cash assistance, while thousands more received food aid.
Your generosity helped families in the north of the country, specifically Idlib and
Aleppo, and eased their worries during the blessed month of Ramadhan.
In neighbouring Iraq, over 200 families in the devastated regions of Mosul and
Anbar where given food and cash assistance, to meet their needs for the month.
In besieged Gaza, Ummah Welfare Trust provided Iftar packs and cash assistance to
1,109 families. Packs were distributed across several towns including, Rafah, Khan
Yunis, Nuseirat, Jabalya and Beit Lahiya.
Finally, in Yemen, over 650 families across Sana'a and its surrounding areas were
given food packs and cash assistance. Thousands more in nearby regions were also
given much needed cash assistance, alhamdulillah.
AFRICA The African continent saw a multitude of cash and Iftar programmes. Your
donations helped several thousands of hungry families this Ramadhan. To the East,
in Ethiopia, over 800 families received financial assistance over 200 received Iftar
packs.
South in Malawi, Iftar packs were provided to over 4,230 Iftar packs were delivered
helping 7,000 beneficiaries. Families in the rural areas of Katema and Namwera
were large packs to last the month of Ramadhan.
In West Africa, 3,650 families in the Gambia received large cash to help them with
their needs in Ramadhan, whist an additional 200 poor families received both cash
grants and Iftar packs.
In Mauritania over 150 families facing food shortages were given Iftar packs to
satisfy their hunger.
Finally, over 2,200 displaced families in Sierra Leone received cash grants as well as
Iftar packs, assisting many vulnerable families at a time where economic activity
has been greatly restricted due to the coronavirus.
SADAQATUL FITR | £552,786.16 SPENT 'The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم declared the payment of Sadaqatul Fitr as obligatory; it purifies the
fasting person from any indecent act or speech, and is a source of feeding the poor.' [Abu Dawud]
Leading up to the Eid festivities, Ummah Welfare Trust distributed over £550,000 of
your Sadaqatul Fitr contributions to poor families in Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Gaza, Iraq,
Ethiopia, Gambia and Malawi.
It was largest Fitr programme Ummah Welfare Trust that delivered, alhamdulillah.
Bags of flour, rice or wheat were provided to over 50,000 families in total, allowing
them to enjoy the auspicious day of Eid.
