If you’ve never seen a CrossFit competition,
you’re missing one of the most exciting athletic
events on the planet. Currently the fastest growing
sport in the world, CrossFit has transformed what was
once a small group of enthusiasts into a world-class
sport that features men and women performing
amazing athletic feats in a grueling competition of
strength, endurance and agility.
While the annual CrossFit Games are sold out
months in advance, regional contests have become a
favorite of fans who can’t make the big show yet still
want to see the fittest people on the planet. The most
hotly anticipated regional show in the western U.S. is
Europa's “SICest of the Southwest” on October 20 at
the Phoenix Convention Center.
SICFIT, one of the earliest influencers in the CrossFit
movement, has been a standard bearer for the sport
for years (for more on SICFIT, see page 26). They were
the obvious choice to host Arizona’s largest CrossFit
competition, which will be the centerpiece of Europa’s
Fitness and Sports Expo on October 20 (see
EuropaExpo.com for more info and to order tickets).
This inaugural competition is expected to be the most
important CrossFit competition since last July’s Reebok
CrossFit Games. Between 300 and 400 competitors will
vie for $10,000 in prize money during the daylong
event, which will be emceed by world-renowned come-
dian and CrossFit Los Angeles coach Kenny Kane.
“Much more than an athletic competition, this event
will showcase the caliber of individuals that choose to
participate in CrossFit and why the sport continues to
grow exponentially,” says Eric Hillman, CEO of Europa.
“The athletes’ commitment to reach new fitness goals
while lifting those around them mirrors our company’s
philosophy, and we are eager to celebrate that level of
dedication during our expo.”
