UNIT 8
PLANNING YOUR WORK
Why good teachers plan their work?
• To save time• To know what you will need for each lesson• Students like to have well-prepared lessons
When and how to plan?
Long term Planning• Before you see
your pupils• Decide what you
want to cover this term and how long it will take you for each unit or topic
Short term Planning• Plan the lessons
on one topic• Show where you
are going and what you want to cover
• Write assessment
Lesson Planning• Before every
lesson• Very detailed
Points to remember when making your lesson Plans:
• Organization of your classroom as easy as possible• Link this lesson with the one before and the one after• Time of day is important• Indicate how much time you think each activity will
take• Have more activities than you think you will need• Balance:
• quiet/noisy exercises • different skills: listening/speaking/reading/writing
• individual/pairwork/groupwork/whole class activities
How did it go?• To know how your planning worked out 'Did the pupils learn what I wanted them to learn?' • You can make a quick checklist:
1. Did they learn what they were supposed to learn?
2. Did the organization work?3. Did they like the topic? 4. Did I do this part of the
lesson?5. Was it the right kind of
activity at that stage?
What to do when things go wrong?
• An external disturbance• An internal disturbance• The class is out of control• An activity is taking too
long• You have extra time• An activity doesn’t work• An activity is too difficult
