OVERVIEW

Overview CongratulationsonyourpurchaseoftheAeroSafetySystems’CentralWarningPanel(CWP)andMasterCaution(MC).Thispurchaserepresentsanimportantinvestmentinyoursafety.Goodchecklistdrillsandcockpitscanswillalwaysbeessentialforgoodairmanshipandresponsiblecaptaincy,butforthosetimeswhenyouneedtofocusonadifficulttaskortosharpenyourlookoutincongestedairspace,it’sreassuringtoknowthatsafetycriticalitemsorflightconditionsarestillbeingmonitored.

Operating Notes

YourCWPwilltypicallyhavelegends,voicealerts,EFISintegrationandlogicpre-configuredbythefactorytoyourspecificrequirements.Itisimportanttoreadthecustomizationdocumentationthatcamewithyourunittounderstandthelogic,andthisshouldbeappendedtothesepilotsnotes.Anexamplelayoutisshownbelow:

The SD equipped CWPs allow easy customization of the logic and voice alerts. It is the installers responsibility to document any changes to the logic and append the logic in the pilots notes.

Be aware

Forallthesewarningsandcautionstofunctionproperly,theCWPwillhavebeenspecified,configured,installedandwiredwithcarefulthoughttothelogicandinaccordancetothefittinginstructionssuppliedwiththekit.IfyouwerenotresponsibleforfittingtheCWPyourself,asktheinstallerforalogicdocumentandwiringdiagram.Somewarningsorcautionsmaynothavebeenenableddependinguponaircrafttypeinwhichcasetheseshouldbemarkedwiththeblank“-------“legend.SomelegendlogicrequiresdatafromexternaldatafeedsfromanEFISorEnginemonitoringsystem.ThislogicrequirestheEFISanddatafeedtobeoperational.

Switchingthesystemon

Thecentralwarningsystemshouldbewiredtobeautomaticallyswitched onwiththeelectricalmasterswitch. TheCWPfeaturesautoacknowledgeonstartuptopreventunnecessaryflashingcaptionsandvoicealerts.OnPowerup,CWPlegendlogicthatisactivewillilluminatesteady(i.e.notflash)andtherewillbenovoicealerts.Forexample,oninitialpoweronandsincetheengineisnotyetrunning,aLOWOILPRESSUREwarningwouldilluminatesteady(notflash)aswouldtheassociatedMasterWarningCaption.Therewouldbenoaudiovoicealerts.Afterenginestart,thecaptionbecomesinactive,andonlyonreactivationwouldtheLOWOILPRESUREcaptionandMasterWarningflashwiththeassociatedvoicealert.

Testingthesystem

TheCWPcanbetestedatanytimebypressingtheTESTbuttonontheCWPpanel.PressingtheTESTbuttonwillbringalllegendsonsteadyandalsobringonthemastercautionWARNINGandCAUTIONlamps.Indaylight,illuminationlevelsshouldbefullbrightness(sunlightreadable).Inlowlightconditions(e.g.duskornight),theilluminationlevelwillautomaticallybedimmed.Thiscanbetestedbyplacingafingerofthelightsensorwheninbrightlight.WhiletheTESTbuttonishelddepressed,alllampsshouldremainsteadyandthevoice‘TEST-TEST’audioshouldbeheard.Thistestcanbeperformedatanytimeonthegroundorinflighttoconfirmthatthesystemisfunctioningcorrectly.AudiovoicevolumeispresetduringmanufacturebutcanbeadjustedusingatrimpotentiometerlocatedattherearoftheCWPpanel.

AfterEngineStartandPreTake-off

Afterenginestart,warningsorcautionsapplicabletoengineparameterswillextinguish.Similarly,captionsrelatingtoconfigurationwillextinguishsuchasaparkingbrakealertwhenreleasedandcabindoorswhenclosed.Onceawarningorcautionlegendhasbeenextinguishedafterstart(orwasnottriggeredinthepre-startstate),anysubsequentfaultconditionwilltriggertheappropriateCWPandMastercautionorwarning,andassociatedvoiceaudioasapplicable.ThusALLlegendsshouldbedark(unilluminated)fortake-offandthischecke.g.‘CWPCLEAR’shouldbeincludedinyourPRETAKE-OFFchecks.

Note:Thelogicconfigurationallowsanumberofdifferentvoicealertstobeassociatedwithasinglecaption.Thisexpandstheamountofinformationavailabletothepilotbeyondthe8or16captions.Thiscanbeusefulformanyalerts,oneexamplebeing‘CheckGear’whereanumberofretractablegearproblemscanbemonitoredwithlimitswitchesandEFISairspeed/HeightAGLtogenerateasingle‘CheckGear’caption,butanumberofvoicealertsasshowninthisexample:

• “Warning!ThePortGearisnotlockeddown”(DownLimitswitchnotclosedwithin‘x’secondsofgeardownselected)

• “Warning!TheNosegearisnotlockeddown”(DownLimitswitchnotclosedwithin‘x’secondsofgeardownselected)

• “Warning!Landinggearisnotdown”(Airspeedbelow‘x’,HeightAGLbelow‘y’,gearnotdown)• “Caution!TheStarboardgearisnotup”(UPLimitswitchnotclosedwithin‘x’secondsofgeardown

selected)• etc.

WhenWarningsorCautionsaretriggered

Ifatanytimeanyalogicbecomesactive,thewarningorcautionwillbeindicatedasfollows:• Therelevantvoiceaudiowillsoundinaclear,calmvoicee.g.‘CHECKGEAR’• TheMCWARNINGlamportheMCCAUTIONlampwillflashasappropriate.• TherelevantwarningorcautionlegendwillflashontheCWP.

PressingtheMASTERCAUTIONbuttonwillacknowledgethewarningorcautionand:

• Mutethevoiceaudio,• TurntheMasterCautionorMasterWarningcaptiontosteady,• TurntheapplicableflashingCWPlegendtosteady.

Thepilot’sattentionhavingbeenbroughttothesystemfailureorconfigurationanomaly,check-listproceduresshouldthenbefollowedandappropriateactionstaken.Forsomewarningsorcautions,however,amoreimmediate(learned)pilotreactionmayberequired;forexamplea“Gearnotdown”voicealertmaymeanthatgearisnotdownatapproachspeed(assetinthelogicconfiguration)andCHECKFLAPSmaymeanthatyouareabouttoexceedthe(pre-set)flaplimitingspeed.TheCWPsystemremainsalerttoanyotherwarningorcautionsituation(s)arisingsubsequentlyandwillthuswarnoffagainasindicatedaboveifanothersystemfailureorconfigurationanomalyoccurs.Conversely,ifafaultconditioniscorrected,thewarningorcautionlampwillextinguishbutwilltriggeragainifthefaultconditionreoccurs.

Onengine shut-down

Duringengineshut-down,engine-relatedWarningsandCautionswillbetriggeredasalertlogicbecomesactive(e.g.oilandhydraulicpressures/alternatoroutputetc).ThesecanbemutedbypressingtheMasterCautionbuttoninthenormalway.SwitchingoffthebatterymasterwillshuttheCWPsystemdownandre-setitforsubsequentstartup.
