Answer ALL questions in this section on the drawing paper provided.
This section assesses Criteria 2 and 3.
Question 1: This question assesses Criterion 2.
Figure 1 shows the end view of a regular hexagonal prismatic container positioned on a horizontal floor.
Graphically determine whether or not the container, when rolled clockwise (without sliding), will pass
through the opening.

Question 2: This question assesses Criterion 3.
Figure 2 shows the plan and elevation of a regular hexagonal studio.
Graphically determine the longest straight 20mm metal rod that can be carried into the studio.

Question 3: This question assesses Criterion 2 and 3 equally.
Figure 3 shows a disc with centre C that is fixed to a vertical wall. Attached to the disc at pivot A is an arm
with a counterweight. The arm is free to swing about pivot A, but the Stops B and D limit the arm’s
movement as the disc rotates.
Plot the path of P (the centre of the counterweight) as the disc rotates in the direction of the arrow for one
revolution.

Question 4: This question assesses Criterion 2 and 3 equally.
Draw the Displacement Graph of a cam that is fixed to a 10mm diameter shaft and imparts the following
motion to an on-centre knife edged follower. The cam rotates in a clockwise direction.
0°- 120° from 60mm above the shaft centreline to 75mm maximum height with uniform velocity
120°- 180° dwell (rest)
180°- 360° back to 60mm above the shaft centreline with simple harmonic motion.

Answer ONE question in this section on the drawing paper provided.
This section assesses Criteria 2 and 3 weighted 1:4 respectively.
Question 5:
Figure 4 shows the plan and elevation of a “butterfly (dihedral) roof” house.
Graphically determine:
(a) the true (dihedral) angle between the two roof panels and
(b) the true shape of each roof panel.

Question 6:
A round reflector R is fitted to a bicycle wheel as shown in Figure 5.
Draw the path of the centre of the reflector R as the wheel rolls (without slipping) through one full revolution
along the ground line.

Question 7:
Figure 6 shows an isometric view of a beach house.
Draw a fully dimensioned Third Angle Orthographic Projection of the beach house showing:
(a) a plan view and
(b) two elevations from the direction of the arrows.
