Reign of Terror Louis XVI’s Execution: Louis and his family

try to flee France. He is caught on the border for bribing the guard with a coin with his face on it. Prussia and Austria attack France, a public trial condemns Louis to death for Treason by one vote (361/720).

Reign of Terror: Maximillion Robespierre takes over and decides that all those who disagree with him are traitors who must die. He has roughly 40,000 people killed, mostly by Guillotine or riots. Citizens could be killed for having a book with the King’s seal, criticizing Robespierre, or simply because someone Said they were guilty of treason. No proof was ever necessary. Eventually, Robespierre is accused of treason by his own friends who have become terrified by his bloody madness and he is executed by guillotine.

War with Austria and Prussia: France’s Armies do defeat the Austrian and Prussian invaders.

BSQ:

Why does Robespierre become so radical? What causes him to become so extreme his own friends order his death?

How will all this violence affect the people of France?

Predict: What will the French people be looking for in a government now?
