Bexley is divided into small areas called wards.

Each ward elects 3 local councillors.Our school is in a ward called Blendon &Penhill and these are our councillors.

All the councillors vote for a leader, and the leader of Bexley Council right now is Teresa O’Neill. The Council makes decisions about local issues.

London GovernmentLondon is divided into boroughs. Two boroughs join together and elect one person to speak up for themat the London Assembly.

Our London Assembly member forBexley & Bromley is James Cleverely.

We also elect someone to be the Mayor of London. At the momentthe Mayor is Boris Johnson. The Mayormakes decisions about London issues,like transport, the police and the Olympics.

National GovernmentBritain is divided into constituencies. Every constituency elects onMember of Parliament (MP) to speak up for them in the Houses of Parliament.

There are 650 MPs in Britain.Our MP is James Brokenshire.

The national government is madeby the political party which winsthe most MPs at an election. Theleader of this party becomes ourPrime Minister. At the moment he is David Cameron.The Prime Minister makes decisions about national issues.
