Site Analysis started the project, by sufficiently investigating the natural and man-made environment.

The form was developed through subtractive principles to generate the design

This transformation allowed for the

conversion of the parti into a

functional design

Mediation principles and structural details were integrated in order to make the design functional and practical

The Concept of this design was to create a suspended level dividing the functions of the space to maximize its usage , without overcrowding the site.

PROJECT 2bPROJECT 2bThis project continued with the development on This project continued with the development onUtech’s campus. I was given a particular zone (G) Utech’s campus. I was given a particular zone (G)to place my pavilion. The intention of this was to to place my pavilion. The intention of this was tointroduce the principle of designing through introduce the principle of designing throughtectonics, understanding the mechanics of tectonics, understanding the mechanics ofstructural system and restrictions of building structural system and restrictions of buildingmaterials.materials. We were given a 12m specified footprint and the We were given a 12m specified footprint and theuse of steel or timber to incorporate into this use of steel or timber to incorporate into thisdesign . My pavilion was timber with a lizarddesign . Zone G boundaries lay between the two SOBA buildings on the top and bottom side, and from the SOBA bridge to the edge of the HR building.

22

The design concept was generated from the simple stance and motion of a lizards, this reflected an understanding of nature’s ability to create balance in an unique form.

20

The structural development required an underdstanding of the materials, which should be reflected in the pavilion, where wooden components were assembled to create a wooden form. Also, features were added to create a functional space that included as seating, shade and pathways.

PROJECT 3aPROJECT 3aThe aim of this project was to capture the essence The aim of this project was to capture the essenceof a space through documentation and observaof a space through documentation and observa-tion . The site was covered in heavy vegetation tion . The site was covered in heavy vegetationwith a river bisecting it. The information gathered with a river bisecting it. 26

To carry out the site analysis, we broke yup into three groups, each resonsible for a particular segment of the river.Analysis of these regions was done by obtaining plans , photos and sections that thoroughly represented the site.

The intervention developed capitalized on the Bamboo found on the site. The bamboo was used to create an access bridge that sat above the high water level for a permanent position with an eco-friendly design.

28

The structural design was based on the character of the bamboo used , which allowed it to span the river and adequately support the loads.

PROJECT 3bPROJECT 3bThis project continued to impose the concept of This project continued to impose the concept oftectonics. Here we were given the task to design a tectonics. The design process started with a concept model, which worked well on the slope of the site that inves-tigated stability and accessibility. The design was further fleshed out and dimensioned.

32

Evidence of material competence had to be displayed . Also the concept of material components generating the form, where the structure defines the shape. This shelter was designed with wood, from which the unique building system of lumber was clearly displayed.

This design relied heavily on the process in which , input came from the site and precedents study. On to models and sections which developed the ideas , to the critiques which refined and helped to bring closure to the designing process.
