The Icelandic Village program is a novel way to learn
Icelandic as a second language at the University of
Iceland. Students rehearse Icelandic conversations
in classrooms before going out into the community
to practice in real-life situations.
The staff at participating companies of the project
welcome the students and only speak Icelandic during
the encounter.
The project started in January 2012 and is in its
experimental stage until June 2013. During this time
the logo was designed, the workbook featuring
illustrations, instructions, work field and activity cards
were also designed and published. All the project
materials are given to students in a bag (see opposite
page).
Promotional work included the placement of the
Icelandic Village logo on the store windows and glass
doors of participating businesses of the project. In
addition, promotional flyers were distributed in public
places, libraries and cafes.

The idea of the logo is based on the key
elements of the program: meet, record, speak and share. A red circle is placed in the
centre to represent the meeting point and
a record button. Talking bubbles inside the
rounded shape of the logo create an image of
the Earth, which shows the connecting nature
of the program.

represented by an icon in a talking bubble. These
symbols are used in the workbook to indicate to
students where they can be expected to use particular
new words and phrases in Reykjavik.

Olli eignast vinChildren´s book, “Olli makes a friend ” The story and illustrations by Viktoriia Buzukina
Course: Barnabók (e. Children´s book)
Instructor: Kristín Ragna Gunnarsdóttir
The moral of the story is that you can be friends with
anyone, no matter how different they are.
Kindness is the key.
This book is targeted at children aged zero to five.
I used full-illustrated spreads in order to grab children’s
attention and a short text so that parents would not need
to stay on a page for too long a time. The book is short
enough for those children who are only beginning to learn
to read.
The objective of the book is to show the importance of
how text and illustrations work together. When text is not
used to tell the story on some spreads, the illustrations
are strong enough to describe the actions and lead to the
next page.

InspirelandAn Imaginary World
Course: Höfundur og verk (e. Author & Work)
Instructor: Haraldur Agnar Civelek
Inspireland – the solid part of nowhere in eternity distinct
from reality and evidence. This land is for everyone and
anyone can enter it immediately at any time. It does not
require a password or key or any form of transport. It
only requires desire and imagination. Here, the day can
replace night only when water will fall up or trees will
start to talk.
You can hear thoughts of the air and see dreams of the
sand. It is a land of colours, sounds and shapes that are
changing depending on people’s fantasy. But people are
not born here, they are reborn here, find new thoughts
and views. This place exists only in our heads and will
never disappear until we have imagination and desire to
create. Inspireland is the place where our thoughts come
from and our ideas are born, and every our work has a
piece of this land.

A “Stream of life” map is a map that is showing my connection to an ocean symbolism.
Every ocean creature represents certain period in my life that I start as a pearl, protected by my parents, shells. Time goes forward and I am changing depending on my age and my interests, becoming a young turtle with my little pearl which now I have to protect, but for sure it is not the last my transformation…

“Stream of Life” is a personal map
that shows my connection to the
ocean. Every creature represents
a certain period in my life. I begin
life as a pearl where I am protected
by my parents (represented by the
shell). As time moves forward I begin
to change. The map ends at a period
where I become a young turtle, which
is a symbol of motherhood, which
is a symbol of motherhood and
protection.

Rebranding The Icelandic Museum of Design and Applied Art
Course: Verksmiðjan (e. The work studio)
Instructors: Ármann Agnarsson and Jónas Valtýsson
The Icelandic Museum of Design and Applied Art has a
weak brand identity. The logo is always used differently
and in random places in printed or digital media. My
rebranding work proposes a new and improved look to
give the Museum a more fresh and modern identity.
