University of Toronto, spoke on “Home Care: The Research Challenge.” Dr. Coyte focused on how we can ensure that home care is a cost-effective alternative to hospitalization and also on the development of standards to assure that patients receive high quality care in their homes. His presentation was well received by the audience.

A very exciting fall event on leadership will be held on September 17 at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto. A lineup of confirmed speakers includes Marilyn Bruner, CHE, President

Vancouver Island Chapter Gaston Levac, CHE, CCHSE President, was

guest speaker at the Vancouver Island Chapter’s annual general meeting. Gaston’s informative account of current College initiatives was received with optimism. It is encouraging to note that the issues related to the value of College membership that are of concern to most local chapters are being addressed. The Chapter’s new elected Executive Committee includes Chuck Rowe, FCCHSE, Chair; Diane Layton, Vice-Chair; Lynn Stevenson, CHE, Secretary; Joanne Solomonson, CHE, Treasurer; Stan Hale, CHE, Past Chair; and Eileen Goudy, Colleen Black, Dr. Jan Storch, CHE, Denis Protti and Mary Jackson as members-at-large.

and CEO, -St. Joseph’s Health-Centre, Toronto; David Prentice, an outstanding motivational speaker; Sister Elizabeth Davis, President and CEO, Health Care Corporation of St. John’s; and General Lewis MacKenzie, formerly of the Canadian Armed Forces and a well-known presenter. Chapter members recently completed a survey to indicate interest in participating in the mentoring program, either to mentor or to be mentored. The Chapter started this successful program approximately three years ago.
