Placement/Support and the CFR

• This project focused on providing strong practices for both reception/orientation and programming/placement.

• Documents were created with the intent to help guide schools to ensure that EAL students receive the best possible reception/orientation.

• We also created systems and procedures to assist teachers in determining and communicating CFR levels. We focused on communicating and informing all parties involved (teacher/student/parent).

Reception and Orientation

New Registration Format

Fully integrated into PowerSchool system

-determines:

Residency Status, CFR levels and Tuition

Reception and Orientation

Binder Includes:

• Welcome bulletin board packages

• Parent packages

• Teacher packages

New PSSD - Initial Assessment

• Modified South East Cornerstone Initial Assessment document

• Created protocols for usage

• Met as a division EAL team to ensure alignment in administration

• This document helps guide teachers to appropriately adapt and program for EAL students.

• Brought group of EAL teachers and classroom teachers together(multi).

Changes to SECSD Initial Assessment

• Revised introduction

• Created/modified an initial oral assessment

• Added an A.W.L assessment (High School)

• Changed the order from skill based to age based (Elementary, Middle, High School)

• Included a first language writing sample

• Changed speaking and writing prompts

• Included Sight Word and Phonics Assessment

• Created new Initial Assessment Flowchart

• Made CFR and Initial Assessment based Placement and support flow chart/ programming recommendations

• Middle years writing assessment (Coming To Canada: A Four Picture Story)

• Essay and graphic organizer for secondary writing task

• Included PSSD CFR yearly report template

• Modified most of the CFR rubrics
